Sophie's back instantly straightened as she slowly turned around to face the voice she hadn't heard in thirteen years.

Leant casually against the doorframe, Klaus stood with his arms folded across his chest. He had an uncharacteristic stern look on his face, his jawline was clenched. Sophie sized him up. He was wearing a long faux fur coat, leather trousers and a tank top. Classic Klaus. She searched his eyes and found nothing but fury and hurt.

Sophie opened her mouth and closed it again. She didn't know what to say. A beat passed and he hadn't chosen to fill the silence, again, this was strange behaviour from the man in front of her. She really must've done a number on him.

"Hey, it's been a while,". Sophie settled with a simple greeting, she wasn't sure where their conversation was going to go and she hadn't quite yet prepared what she was going to say to him.

Klaus winced. He had missed her voice. He forgot how much she grounded him. All the drugs in the world couldn't compare to the buzz he received from her presence.

"Thirteen years, 11 months and 12 days, to be exact,". Klaus pushed himself off the door frame and stood up straight.

Sophie could see the film in front of his eyes, caused by the harmful chemicals he put into his body. Now that the door frame wasn't supporting his weight, she noticed a slight wobble in his stance.

She tried a simple "I've missed you," and flashed him her award winning smile. A smile that used to send Klaus to his knees.

"No you haven't." Klaus deadpanned. "You would never have left if you cared about me. I wouldn't have turned into a drug dependent mess if you didn't leave me."

Sophie's heart stopped. She felt sick. She had always felt guilty about leaving Klaus. Her ability to help him clear his mind from all the ghosts was not uncommon amongst the household. Their connection pushed the spirits away, but when she left, they came back to haunt the teenage boy. She had always justified herself knowing Robin was her top priority, but seeing her broken love just meters away, she couldn't help but wonder if she should've returned home.

No. Robin was the most important person to her. Sophie would do anything for her little girl. She didn't have a single regret when it came to Robin.

Still, Sophie was left speechless.

"You're the reason I'm like this love," his face softened slightly at the use of his old nickname for her, "you kept them away, and when you left they came flooding back".

Sophie looked to the ground, her voice barely above a whisper.

"I had to leave Klaus, I didn't have a choice".

The man scoffed and took a few steps until he was directly in front of her. She could smell the alcohol radiating off him.

"Then enlighten me, tell me why you abandoned us all. Why did you abandon me?!". His voice had gotten louder towards the end of his interrogation. Sophie swallowed hard. She looked into those green eyes. Now he was closer, she could see a slight hint of longing behind them, but she knew it would be a while before they would be able to rekindle their past feelings.
