Chapter 21: Back and Forth

The blood cage was beginning to form. I was quite excited to see it, but I could feel myself go towards the cage, against my will. My blood is pulling me towards the cage I realized belatedly. I made a new force field containing the blood cage, and I hit the wall with a thud. I looked at Lilith, she didn't seem to be struggling.

"The sensation should calm down within a minute or two." Lilith said.

I waited against the wall, calming myself. Elizabeth was after us, with that thing in hand. I thought back throughout the whole spar...the connection...the kiss. My face heated up as I thought of that. It can't just be me feeling what I'm feeling...right?

I felt a pair of arms on me and I felt Lilith pull me off the force field. I fell back onto her. I looked above me and she smiled, so I smiled back. "See? Told you." I stood up and nodded, embarrassed.

Focus.

I looked around the area and saw Elizabeth running toward us, with that monstrosity in hand. I focused on keeping the force field together, though it wouldn't last that long because of her weapon.

"Finish the spell! I'll hold her off as long as I can!" I yelled to Lilith, who nodded and turned her attention to the spell.

Alright. She was safe inside the smaller force field. I began to chant words of strength for the force field. She wasn't going to get through, even with that thing. I hope.

Elizabeth was much closer than before, she swung her sword up and hit the force field. My vision went dark and came back slowly. Shoot. It's much stronger than I thought. Sweat began to trickle down my forehead. She kept swinging her weapon. Back and forth. Back and forth.

I never knew I could crack so soon. I wouldn't crack, I wouldn't let her. She hit again and I fell to my knees. I was getting so drained from holding the force field together, but I was proud to say there weren't any cracks.

I felt a hand on my shoulder and looked back to see Lilith, looking determined. "It's done. Are you ready?" I felt myself feeling more powerful already, as if her touch could bring more power to us. Then I remembered that it could. I leaned against her and saw a surprised look cross her face. I was exhausted.

"In a minute."

I felt her relax "Alright."

Elizabeth was still trying to break the force field, but I could barely feel it. I felt whole, a numbness was spreading over me. It felt nice, I wish it could be like this forever. Lilith by my side, me by her side...

Focus.

Right. I rose "I'm ready." She looked stunned, but quickly regained her composure.

"There's one part left of the spell." Lilith said.

"Wait...what? I thought all we had to do was give our blood."

"We have to..." Lilith didn't finish.

"Have to what?"

"We have to...kiss." Lilith said.

Oh. Absolutely not! I can't, I won't be able to just kiss her...will I? I'm good at hiding my emotions, but in front of my familiar...I could. I could do it, just a quick small kiss.
