Brad had dashed into the classroom, late as usual, arriving breathlessly in the middle of an explanation. The whole class had their attention turned towards him as the teacher stopped talking to listen to his apology.

"I am sorry for being late." Brad ran through the standard apology phrase rapidly, still catching his breath.

The teacher and class waited impatiently for his explanation. His fellow classmates were all grinning, because they they had listened to Brad's excuse so many times before.

"I left home at the correct time but when I was halfway to school, I remembered that I left my textbook at home."

"I am very sorry," Brad concluded as he ran his hand through his hair.

"I accept your apology, Mr Millers, " the teacher said before looking at his textbook and resuming his explanation.

With a smirk on his face, Brad went to his seat.

Then, as if forgetting something, the teacher stopped taking and looked up for a few seconds staring at the class.

"Mr Millers... detention after school," he said as the smirk on the boy's face fell.
