Past

I saw a man running.

From a failed proposal,
A man with a gun
A howling beast,
Or just for fun

To an interview,
An incredible sale
To catch a bus,
To drop some mail

To the finish line,
From a game of tag
To the airport with-
Stolen jewels in his bag

I saw a man running.

I could keep guessing,
But I knew just why
As he stared at me,
With regret in his eyes

No matter how hard,
He tried to break free
His crimes would forever-
Keep him company

So as he ran,
I chased just as fast
For he was a sinner,
And I was his Past.
