As a toddler, he did reckless things to make himself happy.

Now, he does reckless things to make himself not sad.

As a toddler, he would pick out the most colourful crayons in the box and eat them to paint his world a shade brighter.

Now, he drinks and smokes to make the dark shades fade away.

As a toddler, he used to run away because it gave him the attention he adored.

Now, he runs away to escape the unwanted attention.

As a toddler, he would stand as close to the balcony railing as his mother would permit, dreaming of what it'd feel like to fly.

Now, he stands closer, closer, and closer to the railing, dreaming of what it'd feel like to fall.
