Change

Change is like a splash of cold water on my face first thing in the morning.

It only hits me

When I replace the bar of soap in the bathroom, even though it felt like just yesterday I opened a new pack.

When I pay this month's water bill, even though it felt like just yesterday I paid for April.

When I notice my hair cascades down my shoulders, even though it felt like just yesterday I chopped it all off.

When I feel the scorching heat on my skin, even though it felt like just yesterday a snowflake kissed my nose.

When my garden gifts me with gardenias as pearly white as the moon, even though it felt like just yesterday I sowed the seeds in the soil.

When I see a picture of us in my gallery and smile, even though it felt like just yesterday I was huddled by the front door with tears streaming down my face after you walked out.

It's hard to notice changes; but when you do, you'll see that you've grown just as much as your hair that now cascades down your shoulders and your pearly white gardenias in the garden.
