Remember Me

I'm watering a garden of weeds;
I'm bandaging a wound that won't bleed;
I'm carrying an umbrella without rain;
I'm doing anything to lessen the pain;

I'm writing on a filled page;
Keyless, attempting to open a cage;
Even though I know that there's no hope,
I do these things so that I can cope.

Maybe that's why I sit beside your hospital bed,
Recounting tales from the books I've read
For a moment we'd be the young girls we'd once been,
Before age took our innocence and our jolly wide grins.

The next day I'll be gone from your memory,
But I'll hold on to the hopes that you'll remember me.
