ARYN

A sharp breath.

A long intense eye contact.

My eyes stared right into his hazel ones as he slowly introduced himself by signing with his hands.

His shoulders were broader now. His hair was neatly cut. I would never have imagined him traveling to this town when he specifically informed me that he wants to explore the world on his own as an independent lone wolf.

The day I met him was the exact same day his father died. They were both lone wolves and his father was killed by rogues. His mother, however, was a member of a pack who died giving birth to him. If it weren't for his father, he wouldn't have survived all these years. That was the reason why he wanted to explore the world.

To learn how to be independent.

We went to our separate ways 2 years ago.

Lucy and I resided in this area while he went into different towns, countries, and even served different packs around the continent.

Dion sends me a letter from time to time but the latest one I received was over a month and a half ago.

So imagine my facial expression that is contorted in surprise, when I saw the familiar form standing in front of the class.

"Dion?" I faintly whispered. He gave me a small smile in return.

After the short introduction our teacher gave, he was assigned to sit beside the person to my right. I think her name is Kylou.

I leaned over to her side and gently tapped her desk.

"Kylou?"

Her eyes averted towards my direction. Her eyebrows rose in question. "Yes?"

"Would it be alright if I swap places with you?" I politely asked, praying that she'd let me.

"Sure thing, Aryn." I silently thanked her and switched places with her, bringing my things with me.

I turned my head to the right and saw that Dion was taking his notebook and pen out.

With such discreteness, I wrote something on a ripped piece of paper and handed it over to him when the teacher wasn't looking.

Judging by the look in his face, he was shocked that I was beside him already.

What are you doing here?

-A

In my peripheral vision, I could see him scribbling a reply.

He handed the paper over.

Council sent me a letter regarding the law.

Asked me to choose a place and I chose Everest Hills because you were here.

It would have been easier since Dion travels a lot and somehow, the council was aware of that. Dion can be recognized in a few packs so it is not that surprising to hear that he was enlisted as a lone wolf in their system.

Plus, it's your birthday soon.

Aww. Of course, you'd be here.

Do you have a place to stay?

Always.

And I do. An apartment complex in Ownershack Avenue. The 7th.
