chapter eight;
lights out

LUCY KEPT HER HEAD DOWN AS SHE WALK DOWN THE HALLWAYS. Her eyes were still red from crying. She walked down the stairs, having no idea where she was going. She could've just teleported downstairs, but she took her time walking as her time to think. She didn't really care. She just needed a getaway from all of the mess, just like how Peter said it.

A part of her knew that whatever Tony was doing, he was just doing whatever he thinks is right. A part of her knew that Tony doesn't mean anything but just to keep her safe. But, there's always that one part of her that thinks otherwise. As she stepped down, the first thing she noticed was the cafeteria. A small smile formed on her lips. She has been running on two hours of sleep and an awful jet lag, a cup of coffee doesn't sound so bad.

Lucy stopped at the cashier and ordered her drink. "Is there anything else?" the cashier asked. Lucy shook her head, and as she was about to hand her the bill, the power went out. She was at one of the most secured and well-built compound, the power just doesn't go off, especially in the middle of an interrogation with a terrorist that killed a Wakandan king. She started to become more and more suspicious as she walked out of the cafeteria onto the outdoor lounge.

She furrowed her eyebrows as she looked up at the floors above her. Her eyes widen as the sight of the guy that she knew was supposed to be at a well secured room, jumped down and fire his gun at every single thing that caught his eyes. Lucy raised her hand and sent an energy towards him, knocking him down. "EVERYONE, GET OUT OF HERE!" she yelled as she ran over at him and stepped on his body that was still down on the floor.

Lucy tried to point his arms on the ground, but the metal arm was stronger. He punched his way out of her grip and fired his gun. But, Lucy was enough to dodge it as white bubble of shield formed in front of her. She let the surge of energy flow down her fist, before punching him down. "What the hell is your problem?!" she yelled.

He was still on the ground, and Lucy took this opportunity to give him another punch, this time, harder. As she was about to lunged for the third time, he was faster and caught her fist. Lucy glared at him, and she used her other hand to send a surge of energy towards him, knocking him down. He fired his gun at her, but none of the bullets made it past the barrier that she created.

Before he fired another shot, a high pitched frequency was heard before Tony ran in and lunged at Barnes. "Don't touch my daughter" he said as he threw a punch at him. He pointed his gun at Tony, but he was quick to push the gun out of his face, missing him barely. Lucy took a chair and swung it on Barnes' head.

He turned to her, a deadly glare plastered on his face. A small smirk formed on the girl's lips. He didn't manage to throw her another punch as Sharon Carter came in and gave him a kick, Natasha following behind. Lucy rushed over to Tony as she sees that Sharon and Natasha had it under control. "Are you okay?" she asked as she helped him up.

Tony nodded. "Lucy.. I-"

"Let's just talk it over dinner, yeah dad?" she said, before running towards Barnes and send a surge of energy towards him, which seemed to pissed him off. He threw her a glare and before Lucy could respond, his metal arm gripped Lucy's throat and held her up. Lucy could feel herself getting harder to breath.

Tony fired at Barnes, which let his grip from Lucy's throat go. Tony took no time, and rushed over to her as T'Challa lunged at Barnes. "Hey, hey it's okay" Tony said as he rushed over to Lucy who was coughing out for air after she was choked. "I got you, sweetheart" he whispered as he took her in for a hug and rub her back comfortingly. Lucy sighed as she started to control her breathing. She watched as Barnes knocked T'Challa down and ran up the stairs.

Lucy was back at where she was before, except this time, Secretary Ross was there and she had no idea where Steve, Sam, and Barnes is. She held an ice pack and pressed it against her bruised cheek. "I don't suppose you have any idea where they are?" he asked.

"We will. GSG 9s got the borders covered. Recon's flying 24/7. They'll get a hit, we'll handle it" Tony explained.

"You don't get it, Stark. It's not yours to handle. It's clear you can't be objective. I'm putting special ops on this" he said. Lucy furrowed her eyebrows in disagreement.

"What happens when the shooting starts? What, do you kill Steve Rogers?" Natasha asked.

"If we're provoked" he stated.

"You are not killing him" Lucy stated through gritted teeth. He turned to her and raised his eyebrows.

"Barnes would've been eliminated in Romania if it wasn't for Rogers" he said. Lucy was quick to open her mouth and defend Steve, but the secretary cut her off. "There are dead people that would be alive now. Feel free to check my math" he said, narrowing his eyes at her. The girl sighed and glared at him.

"All due respect, you're not gonna stop this with boys and bullets, Ross" Tony stated. "You gotta let us bring them in"

"And how would that end differently than last time?" Ross asked.

"Because this time I won't be wearing loafers and a silk shirt" he said. Lucy furrowed her eyebrows. What is he planning on? Fighting Steve? "Seventy-two hours, guaranteed" he said. A part of her knew three days wasn't going to be enough.

"Thirty six hours" Ross stated. Lucy internally groaned. Well, we're screwed, she thought. "Barnes, Rogers, Wilson" he said before walking away. Lucy turned to Tony and shook her head.

"Thank you, sir" Tony said. Lucy groaned and rested her head on the table. "My left arm is numb, is that normal?" she heard Tony asked.

"You all right?"

"Always" Tony answered. Lucy raised her head and turned to the two adults.

"Well, I'm not" she stated. "We are absolutely screwed" she said, shaking her head. Natasha sighed. "Thirty six hours, and we are completely understaffed" she said, panic laced in her voice. This was exactly what she feared was going to happen. Tony nodded.

"Yeah. It'd be pretty good if we have a Hulk right now. Any shot?" he asked, turning to Natasha. A small smile formed on Natasha's lips, as she shook her head.

"You really think he'd be on our side?" she asked. Lucy snorted and shook her head.

"No" she said.

"I have an idea" Natasha said. Tony nodded.

"Me too. Where's yours?" he asked.

"Downstairs, where's yours?" Natasha asked. Tony smiled and turned to Lucy. The girl furrowed her eyebrows. Her eyes widened as she realised what he meant.

"Dad, no" she stated.

"Can you think of anyone better?" he asked. Lucy sighed.

"Well, no. But-"

"Luce, trust me, I won't do this if I had any other choice" he said. Lucy sighed. She knew he was right. Time's ticking and there's unfortunately not much choice.

Lucy turned to him and nodded. "Okay" she said.

"Do we have his address?" Tony asked. Lucy nodded. She pulled out her email from Kennedy and opened the attachment. She gave it to Tony for him to see. "How in the world do you get this?" he asked.

"Kennedy hacked the school system and emailed me his file" she said. Tony stood up and put on his vest before making his way out of the room, following Natasha. Lucy caught up with him and walked beside him.

"Tell Kennedy she's invited to dinner"
