Lee Minho:

I have never heard a baby cry. I have never heard birds chirp, or a car engine start, or TV, or music, or a dog bark and a cat's meow.

I've never even heard the sound of my own voice.

Hey, I'm Lee Minho, and I was born legally deaf in both ears.

Apparently, my mom did drugs or something when she was pregnant with me. That caused me to get sick, and lose my hearing before I was even born.

Once I was born, my mom left and I have lived with my amazing dad for my eighteen years of life. I have never met my mother, and at this point I don't want to.

I don't speak much. Since I've never heard my voice, I'm insecure about it. I don't know if I'm ever talking too loud, too softly, just right, or if I have an annoying voice. I might even be saying words wrong, for all I know! I was never able to find a good tone, because I was never able to hear it before.

It's also pretty hard sometimes to understand my "deaf voice." A deaf voice is how people who have never heard speak. Depending on the word, it can be clear, or extremely hard to understand. In my case, it depends on the word i'm trying to say and my confidence saying it.

I do speak, just not a lot and when I do I usually cut words out to shorten the sentence. It's like broke Korean.

I've been learning sign language since I can remember. I'm fluent now, but most of my friends are in the middle of learning currently so we can communicate better. Yeah we can text, but still it would be nice to give my poor thumbs a break.

It's hard, being deaf and all because of the obvious. But, I also have a passion for dance. I need to blast the music so I can feel the vibration on my feet, so I actually know what I'm doing. But it's risky.

My life is kind of lonely. My dad has two jobs to support both of us so I don't see him much. And I have no siblings. My best friend, Seungmin is really busy with his life, because he's an over achiever. I have other friends, but they hang out so much and do things I could never.

I can't go watch movies, and I can't go to concerts. It's hard to do things seniors would usually do.

So when I feel lonely, I go to Han Jisung.
