Evie

Hurriedly, I slipped my black flats onto my feet, glancing at the gold watch that set perfectly around my wrist. "Shit." I mumbled lowly, grabbing my purse and keys and heading out the door.
Today, I would be starting my new job at one of the most popular automobile companies that specializes in some of the best sports cars, Aston Martin. The brand was coming out with one of their yearly models and so they needed a lot of public display.

Apparently their last PR person quit, with the price tag attached to this job, I was confused to why they'd just give up a job like this.

The company needed someone who could handle the job, get the work done without being distracted and who is a better candidate than myself? I knew that this would be the job for me.

I'm freshly out of school, earning a degree in public relations and business. Not to mention that I'm black, young and gifted.

I jumped into my truck and turned the key in the ignition.  Once settled in I decided to call up my best friend, Tish.

"Morning sis! How you feeling?" She exclaimed excitedly. "I'm a wreck Tish, I don't know why I'm so damn scared and nervous." I sighed, trying my best to calm down.

My palms began to sweat as my hands shook against the steering wheel, holding it tight. Even though I know this is going to be a piece of pie for me and that I'll do great, I couldn't help but to be nervous as hell.

I wanted the people there to like me and to fit in, from what I was told this is an all male predominant company. The only other woman working there is an assistant. "What if I don't do good? Or they decide they want a male PR associate?" I questioned.

Biting the inside of my lip, I hopped on the expressway, heading over to the office. I seriously needed to calm my nerves before I really lose all of my damn mind.

"First off, relax. You need to calm your nerves before you cause an accident. Secondly, they're going to love you. You a bad ass bitch and can do whatever. Now stop at Tim Horton, or any damn where and get yourself some breakfast and calm down." I smiled. I could always count on her to tell me what I needed to hear.

"Okay, are you at work?" I asked, coming off the freeway and pulling into my reserved spot in the parking lot. "Nope, at home with Mr. Phillips." She giggled and I couldn't help but laugh.

"Did you really have to name it?" I asked

"Yup!"

I shook my head "Well, I'm here. I'll get some coffee on the inside, I'll call you once I'm settled." I said as we said our goodbyes. I grabbed my purse and the stack of folders out of the passenger seat and quickly walked inside the building.

Once off the elevator, I walked inside the large office. I noticed people were just... chilling. No work was being done, just a lot of lounging around.

I see why they needed me. What was going on in this office was a pitiful ass shame.

I looked around the space in total disgust, I was going to have my work cut out for me dealing with this company that's for sure.

I was so lost in my thoughts that I almost hadn't noticed the short and petite woman that tapped my arm "Are you Evie Summers?" she asked

She must have been Adrianne, the assistant.

I nodded "Yes, I am." I said in a confident tone

I had taken Tish's words into consideration and she was right, the office was almost like being in a parallel universe and I couldn't be nervous ole Evie, I had to be the man-eater that I was trained to be.
