"I don't know" I trailed off

I was so conflicted, this was a job that I really wanted and was willing to pay me a lot more than my previous job was paying me and it was a step up in my career. Then, on the other hand, there was the person that's supposed to be my boss, the asshole that I couldn't work with.

"I can guarantee that what happened earlier this week will never happen again, I will talk to Ashton and make sure of it." he assured me

"Mr. Martin, I have two interviews today." I managed to get out

I didn't want to just shut him down because he has been nothing but kind to me since the day we met but I think that I should at least keep my options open because I didn't know what I was walking into if I took this job again.

What if this Ashton guy one day decides he no longer feels like I'm a good fit for their company and fires me? Then I'm right back at square one

"Ms. Summers please, as a chairman of this company, I'm never involved in the process of hiring but I'm glad I've got to be a part of your process because  I see so much potential in you. You have such a strong head on your shoulders, there's no one else possible that I would I like to fill this position" he said "You're a diamond in the rough Ms. Summers, you think I want somebody else getting my diamond?" he asked with a small laugh

"You're only saying that Mr. Martin." that made me smile but somehow Ashton's words from the night before crept their way back into my head.

They've been haunting me for days, it's the whole reason why I fucked up my interview with Nordstrom yesterday.

It seemed like he sensed my hesitation and spoke up "Look, what time is your first interview?" he asked

"Um, it's at noon." I said looking over at the clock and seeing it was approaching 9:30

"It's still early, why don't you come down to the office where you, Ashton and I can lay down some boundaries and if an agreement can't be made..." he trailed off with a sigh "I'll let you go to your interview." he said

"Okay." I nodded "I can do that." I said

"Great! So I'll see you in the next thirty, maybe forty-five minutes if that's fine with you?" he asked

"It is, I'll see you soon Mr. Martin." I said and we hung up.

Deep down, I knew this was the job for me, I knew that I would love working at Aston Martin.

However, Ashton Michaels was such an insufferable prick and his rudeness was so hard to overlook. That's the only thing that's keeping me from really working there.

I can hear Tish in the back of my mind saying "Don't let that dumb ass nigga stop your blessings, you better get your money."

I cared too much and sometimes overthought things and that was one of my biggest downfalls.

If Ashton can apologize, then maybe I can put this shit in the past but I knew better, I knew that would never happen.

I've come across men like Aston many times before, arrogant, cocky and just downright disrespectful. It was disgusting if you asked me. How was I supposed to work with someone like him?

I didn't report directly to him, but from what I heard, he was a pretty hands-on CEO. He was in the office almost every day of the week coming up with plans to make Aston Martin a top company. If he was actually a decent human being, I would say his work ethic was admirable.

The only reason that I was going to this sitdown is out of respect for Mr. Martin. I was grateful that he took the time out and hired me out of I'm guessing hundreds of applicants. He's such a sweet guy that's why it blows my mind that he chose someone like Ashton as his CEO.
