Twenty Five

I twirled the ring on my finger while I helped Colby fold the blankets. Both of us ended up falling asleep in the back of the truck. It was so relaxing to fall asleep under the stars, wrapped in the arms of someone I love. Last night was definitely one to remember.

"We didn't make it clear to fans that it wasn't an engagement ring," I chuckled, showing him some more comments from my recent.

"Mom and dad," he repeated a comment, reaching over to like it, "Didn't realize we had kids."

"How can you not remember our kids? Wow Colby. I thought you were better than this," I joked, rolling my eyes and pretending to fold the remaining blankets angrily. Once Colby and I locked eye contact though, we burst out laughing until our stomachs hurt.

When all the blankets were folded, we arranged them with the pillows in the bed of the truck. Then I climbed in the passenger seat and we started our adventure back to the house. Brennen's truck had an aux cord so I plugged my phone in and shuffled my November playlist that I've composed over the last few days. And I'd add more songs to it as the month goes on. The first song to come on was I'll Stay by Aaron Doh. I just recently found out he could sing from Tori and I've been binge listening to his music ever since.

"Didn't know you listened to Aaron," Colby mentioned, whipping around a corner down the hill.

"I gave you a little bit but you tried to take it all," I sang along, completely ignoring Colby's statement. I danced around the passenger seat over dramatically, belting out the lyrics as the song went on. The next song to come on was Give it Back by Jake Webber. I added this song as a joke, but now I hardcore bop to it.

"Hey dad, remember me?" I turned to Colby, singing along to Corey's part, "It's your son. We used to have fun. What the heck dad, look what you've done. Remember eating honey buns in the sun? You took away need for speed, now I'm gonna drink speed and snort some weed. Don't make me mad. Or I'm gonna be sad," I shouted the last part, flexing my arms, yet again, over dramatically.

"This is why I love you," he said, reaching over and putting his hand on my lower thigh. I put mine on top of his, lacing our fingers together like the photo from last night. As we drove downtown, I recorded a video of the area around us, then flipped the camera and ended the video with Colby and I singing along to 18 by Anarbor. Our hair was flying in the breeze from the open windows. I posted it to my Instagram story.

The music stopped all of a sudden, and I was so confused until my phone started ringing. The ringtone was way louder than the music that was playing and it scared the crap out of me. I turned down the volume, then unplugged my phone and answered the call from my mum.

"Hi honey," she cooed, "And hi Colby," she added, apparently already knowing I was with Colby. I mean, now that we live together, we are together quite a lot.

    "Hi Ms. Hubb," he replied.

"How'd it go last night?" She asked, and I wasn't quite sure if the question was directed towards Colby or me.

"She accepted the ring," Colby said proudly, twirling it around my finger as we held hands. It meant so much to me, just like the locket did. And I'm never taking either off.

"I thought you said no one knew about it?" I questioned.

"Well I had to tell your mum," he chuckled, "You know, ask permission. That's the gentlemen-y thing to do, Les. I can't just give you a promise ring symbolizing a promise to the future without asking your mother for permission."
