Apollo was the god of a TON of things: Music, Arts, Knowledge, Healing, Plague, Prophecy, Poetry, Manly Beauty and Archery. His symbols were the laurel wreath, the bow and arrow and the lyre. And his sacred animals the Roe Deer, Swans and Pythons. He was also known as the Sun God, whilst his sister was the Moon Goddess.
Delos was protected by Apollo and his twin sister Artemis. And the first thing Apollo did was go after the Python that had chased his mother from her home in Delphi, also known as the place of the Oracle. He killed the Python and he became the Oracle of Delphi.
Because the Oracle belonged to his grandmother Phoebe, Apollo was sometimes known as Phoebus Apollo.
