The little rain droplets that fell on Mariya's head made her walked more faster trying to catch up with Zubaida.
"Haba Zubaida, ba jira." Mariya said panting.
"Do you expect me to wait for you in this weather condition." Zubaida replied eyeing her.
"Wait for me please, let me buy some batteries for my torchlight and Jamilahs'."
"Alright, but don't stay long."
Zubaida leaned on a tree opposite the shop Mariya went to and in no time, heavy rain began falling.
Mariya approached Zubaida her hijaab wet from the water."Its raining heavy already, and inna isn't around. Am the one to prepare dinner." Mariya complained.
"What of Jamilah? Won't she prepare it." Zubaida asked.
"She won't do it." Mariya replied searching through her islamiyah bag.
"Why?" Zubaida replied.
"Inna said jego take yi so, she shouldn't be roaming to and fro anyhow." Mariya replied. "See, let's go to that verandah over there..." She said pointing the verandah. "the rain is wetting my uniform."
"No I won't, I rather stay here and get drenched by the rain."
"Why?" Mariya asked looking at the verandah then her friend, she then nodded in understanding. "Ina ruwan mu da su."
Zubaida shook her head in fear "Mariya, let's not go. Its better we stay here. Can't you see how they are smoking cigar? And you want us to go there."
Mariya didn't listened to Zubaida, rather; she dragged her and started walking towards the verandah.
"Kai, me kukeyi anan?" A hefty guy with muscles and dreadlocks whose eyes were red asked exhaling some smokes from his nostrils.
Zubaida wanted to talk but Mariya gave her a sign not to.
"Ba magana muke yi muku ba." Another person spoke.
None of the girls said anything but Zubaida wanted to talk so bad as she had sensed a bad aura in them and feared anything could happen even after they've left the place.
"Ku kyalesu, ko a duhu zan iya gane su inna gansu." Another person whom hasn't spoke anything said glaring at the duo with a close scrutiny.
The rain subsided and Mariya and Zubaida left the verandah, carefully selecting their routes as the ground had become muddy.
"Mariya, what you did there..." Zubaida started but was cut short by Mariya.
"You wanted me to talk to them right, the verandah isn't their fathers' property so everyone has the right to go there and stay." Mariya said.
Zubaida didn't say another word and the duo kept walking in silence.
"Will you watch the series today? The last episode will be shown today." Mariya spoke trying to lessen the tension.
"No, I won't." Replied Zubaida.
"You must, I will come and get you; don't worry, I will ask inna Zainaba for you." Mariya said before they bid each other bye and went their various ways.
Ruqayyah kept pacing back and forth in her room, her phone was held firmly with her; checking it every now and then in expectance of a call from her sister.
