Zubaida ran as fast as her legs could carry her, she didn't care how tiny pebbles or how some thorns kept piercing through her bare feet, as long as she's concerned she's apt to many pains than the ones the pebbles and thorns are inflicting on her.
Now she understands why she needs to be far away from home, the home she once referred to as her comfort zone is suddenly now her grief zone.

She had no torchlight with her, the only source of light she had were the moon and the stars that shone brightly above the sky.
She still hasn't forgotten her best friend after all these while. Mariya. She knows she's her only last option at the moment, and she has to go to her no matter what.

Without noticing the rock that was on her way, she tumbled and hit her head on the hard ground. A little yelp escaped her mouth, her head began to spin, her body felt limp. She felt like a jelly— unable to lift herself off the ground. And the more she remains there, the more likely to be noticeable she'd be.

After the long talk the men had had, it was 11:45pm when they all began leaving to their respective homes, and that was when the absence of Zubaida was noticed. Everyone went busy looking for her, everyone except Hannatu and her son that seemed unscathed with the current situation.

"Why should I care to look for her?"  She had said. "She was the reason my son got embarrassed in the presence of his younger siblings. That's your own problem." She said to everyone that tries to make her move an inch in search of Zubaida.

"She left her phone behind." Ruqayyah worriedly told her father and uncle.

"I think we should go separate ways and look for her, the women should stay at home. Let me call Sani, and his brothers." Baba Habu said and left to call the mentioned ones.

Ruqayyah sighed heavily and turned to leave.

"Ruqayyah, I know..."

"It's okay baba, now isn't the time for this."

"I have to make things right. She's my daughter. I don't want to lose any of my children again." Malam Musa said.

Ruqayyah smiled "No Baba, you are not loosing any of your daughters. But you've lost their trust for you." She didn't wait for any reply and hurriedly left inside, wiping some hurtful tears with her veil.

Magaji smiled, the love of his life is back in Wardanga, and just some few steps away from him. He had been watching her since she fell and hit her head, he watched how she struggled to be on her feet again and continued walking wobbly and weakly. Her head was bleeding unstoppably.

He smiled ferociously and released his three hunting dogs. They began barking and following Zubaida who couldn't run again and collapsed on the ground breathing heavily, wishing for any aid at the moment.

The dogs hungrily drooled at her and the first one didn't hesitate to devour on her open calf, piercing his teeth hungrily into her flesh, and furiously peeling the whole flesh from her body. Leaving her with an opened and bleeding leg and a bleeding head. The dog barked at his accomplices and they left with a mouthful of Zubaida's flesh with them.

"Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji'un." Was what she mentally kept reciting. She couldn't even wail for help. She was weak, she has been defeated physically and emotionally.

"Zubaida, that's for aborting my child." She heard a voice so deep say and left before she could think off who the person was.

She raised her hand weakly, trying to stop whoever is passing by to come to her aid, but every seemed to prefer the warmth of their homes rather than the chilly breeze of the night.
So she had also wished she remained at home than meeting this predicament.

But who is the son? She kept wondering.
Auwal?
But he's dead!
