"Ruel, stop following me."
"But I need hugs."

"I have to go. I can't be late!"
"But just one hug?"
"Fine." I said.

He smiled and threw his arms around me. I felt warm and I squeezed him tighter.

"Okay, I'll see you when I get home, okay?"
He nodded.

"Bye, y/n." Ruel said, pecking my lips.
"Bye, baby." I smiled, turning around and beginning to walk to my new job.

I applied to work for the local bookstore a few blocks away. When Ruel and I were younger, our parents used to take us there because there was also a small cafe inside it. We would sit and talk for hours and share our favorite books.

I haven't been there for a few years.

When I walked in the store, I went to the back to find my manager.

"Hey, y/n!" she said.
"Good morning." I smiled.

"You excited for your first day?" she asked, handing me a list of things to do.
"Um, yeah."
"You'll like it."
"Yeah."

"Well, I have to go check something, so you know what to do."
I nodded.

Once she left I began doing things on the list.

Count stock
Put out new releases
Organize files in back
Take break at 12
Swap positions with Jack (guy working at cashier around 12:50)
Close up shop at 10

I smiled at her little note. For the rest of the day, I checked things off the list and around 12:45, I went to talk to Jack.

"Hi, are you Jack?" I ask.
"Yeah. Are you y/n?"
I nodded.

"Nice to meet you." he smiled.
"Nice to meet you too."

"Okay, well, I'm going to take my break now, but I'll be back around 1:30. Can you handle the front by yourself?"
I nodded.

Once he left, I stood at the cash register, staring at it.

A few minutes passed and no one has entered the store, so I pulled out my phone, as I did everything else.

I saw that I received a few texts from Ruel.

Hi bubbles
I know you're at work but I love youuu
I can't wait till u come home

I smiled, responding to him and shutting my phone off as I heard someone enter the store.

"Hello, welcome. If you need any help, just ask me." I smiled at her.
She smiled back and nodded, walking to the back of the store.

Once Jack came back from his break, we started talking. Business was slow today.

"Wait, so you feed a worm to a bird?"
"Yep. That's probably my proudest moment."
"You're so weird." I laughed.

"Yeah, but at least I didn't fall down a flight of stairs in front of my crush."
"That's not weird. It's embarrassing."
"Mhm, sure." he smiled. "So how do you like it here?"
"It's a lot better than I thought."
"Aww, I'm glad."

"Thanks for helping me today." I said, flipping the open sign so it read closed.
"Yeah, of course."

We quickly tidied up the front area and reorganized some books.

"So I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Duh. You'll see me everyday except for Saturdays and Sundays." I said, putting my coat on.

"Um, hey, quick question?"
"Sure."
"Would you maybe want to go out sometime?"
"Oh, uh, I have a boyfriend, Jack-"
"Wait really? Oh geez, I'm sorry-"
"No, it's okay! Thanks for asking me though."
"Oh yeah, of course. Well, he's really lucky."
"Nope, it's the other way around. Anyways, I hope you find someone soon."
"Thanks, y/n. Um, I'll see you tomorrow then." he smiled, walking in the opposite direction.
"Bye!" I said.

I quickly texted Ruel.

I stood under the street light waiting for him.

When I saw his car, I quickly opened the door and sat down.

"Hey, y/n."
I kissed his cheek, connecting our hands.

"Looks like someone missed me." he teased, laughing.
"Shush." I smiled, looking out the window as he drove, our fingers intertwined.
