ship: will x james

"let's have a kid."

will looked over to his boyfriend, eyebrows furrowed and a confused look on his face. "james, we're men?"

his boyfriend just started laughing, "i know, dork! meant adoption or somethin'."

the couple were laying on their couch, watching a show. james was laying on his back, while will laid on top of james. the two seemed to always do this on a sunday, too lazy to do anything productive.

"you serious james?" will looks at his boyfriend seriously now.

james nods, "'course. in normal relationships the couples have a kid after marriage."

will runs his hand through the others messed up hair, "we're not married though,"

"not yet anyways." says will, as he looks at the engagement ring on his finger. seeing the ring made him think back to when his boyfriend proposed.

i should stop calling him boyfriend huh?

"will."

he looks away from the ring and to his fiancé. "yeah?"

james smiles, rubbing his hand up and down wills back. "you never answered me you git."

"im no git marriott," will huffed. "but yes- my answer is yes."

"yes!" james cheered, kissing his fiancé happily.

will played with his bow tie nervously, a shaky sigh leaving his lips.

he's late.

just as will was about to get up, he felt a tap on his shoulder. he looked up and saw his father.

"c'mon kid, they're waiting for you," he says, holding his hand out.

will reluctantly took it, standing up. all of the annoyed feelings completely disappeared when he looked out the door and to the rows of people sitting there. all there for him and james.

oh shit.

he gulped nervously. these past months of being engaged, will never felt the wedding jitters- until now.

"will they judge me?" he says out of nowhere, grabbing his fathers attention.

"of course not. they wouldn't be here if they were going to judge." wills father wrapped his arm around his sons arm, slowly walking them to the door.

will heard the music begin and saw everyone stand up. his heart started to rapidly beat as he looked at all the eyes on him.

"don't look at them, look at james." his father whispered in his ear.

and will did exactly that. he looked at his future husband, a smile tugging at his lips.

after the two arrived up to james, will stood in front of his soon-to-be husband. as the priest began to recite the same thing as every other priest at a wedding, will looked at james.

james looked back at him, a warm and kind smile painted on his lips. wills insides felt like mush as he stared at him. it warmed his heart knowing that he was about to be married to the love of his life.

will walked down the beach, the warm wind blowing softly. he reached his husband, who sat at the edge of the ocean, the water coming up to his feet only.

he sat down next to him.

"you're up early." his voice is barely above a whisper, a small smile placed onto his lips.

the other male looked at his husband, eyes brimming with tears. wills heart dropped.

"babe," will places his hand on the others shoulder. "what's wrong?"

james looks down at his hand, fingers extended out to show his wedding ring. a few salty tears fell onto his hand.

"i.. do you really love me?" he whispers, voice breaking.

wills eyes water as well. he scooted closer and hugs james' side, placing a kiss on his cheek.

"i do, i love you so much."

*

"okay, now you can open 'em."

james opens his eyes slowly, a wide grin spreading on his lips. he took in the sight.

their spare room was turned into a kids room. one wall was painted a light burgundy colour, while the rest were plain white. the room had the basic toddler essentials; bed, stuffed animals, toys, a bookshelf, and a small dresser with a mirror attached.

he looked over to his husband, "you really got into this, huh?" he laughs softly.

will just shrugged, "i like decorating."

james walked over and sat on the bed, admiring the room once more. "it's cute. better than anything i could do."

his husband sat next to him, looking at james, "so you like it?" james could hear the nervousness in his voice.

"i love it." says james before he pecks will on his lips.

today would be a day will would remember for the rest of his life.

all day there was a smile placed on his lips. he couldn't help but feel so excited. today he and james were going to officially sign the adoption papers for their new daughter, julie.

i'm going to be dad!

that was all he thought about, that and how his parents would react to the new family member.

will had just got off of work when he received a call. he didn't recognise the phone number- but assumed it was probably the orphanage calling to see if he was coming.

"hello!" he chirped happily, sitting in his car.

"hello, are you william marriott?"

will felt his insides mush, never getting used to the last name. "yes! and who's this?"

he heard a jagged sigh, which worried him just a small bit. "i have some tragic news. you're husband- james marriott- was just ran over by a car."

wills heart dropped, his smile falling.

"i'm sorry, but he didn't make it."

"oh... th-thank you for telling me."

he hung up, dropping his phone in his lap. his bottom lip quivered as tears built up in his eyes, falling down his cheeks. will let out a sob, resting his head on the steering wheel and cried. his heart shattered at the realisation.

he's..

will pulled at his hair aggressively, shaking as his sobs became louder.

he's dead.

"i-i can't do this," he sobbed out loud.
