We arrived back at the school just in time to watch the marching band head towards the football field. Firehawk is a large school, and it was rather impressive to see at least 300 kids playing and marching to the same beat.
I held up my hand to shield my eyes from the sunset to get a better view, my eyes searching for one person in particular.
"He plays the saxophone?" I asked, confirming what Oscar had told me earlier today.
"Yup! He's the section leader. He should be coming up here any second now. He usually is at the back of his section on the left," Mia explained, leaning into me to get a better angle.
"There he is!" exclaimed Trevor. They cheered and cat-called Oscar as he marched past us. He must have heard them because he stopped playing to turn his head and wink at us. I don't know how he's managed to pull off a band uniform, but holy crap, he's handsome in it.
Who knew I could have a thing for a guy in uniform? Band uniform, but still.
"Come on, Lana, let's follow the band into the stadium and get seats for the pre-game show," Mia grabbed my hand and started to drag me towards the bleachers. We made our way up towards the top and grabbed seats in the middle. According to Mia, these are prime seats for band watching.
The band marched out onto the field playing the high school fight song, and the energy in the stadium started to electrify as more people took their seats and cheered on the band. My eyes searched for Oscar out on the field, but I couldn't tell one person apart from the other.
"Where is he now?" I asked Mia, who was bouncing in her seat.
"Oh, who knows? They all look the same from up here," she smiled.
"I thought you said these were good seats to see the band?"
"They are! They are great for sound quality and getting to see the whole picture. They're not great for spotting boyfriends," she joked.
"Oscar's not my boyfriend," I tried to defend weakly.
"Not yet," Mia nudged me with her elbow and wiggled her eyebrows.
An exciting shiver traveled up my spine at the thought of Oscar, and I turned my head away from Mia before she could see me blush.
We watched and cheered throughout the rest of the pre-game show, and I swear I spotted Oscar out on the field, but I couldn't confirm that it was actually him. I was having a good time up until the cheerleaders came out of the gym to set up a banner for the football team to run through.
This is the first time I have seen Brynn in a month, and confusion swept over me. What on earth did she have planned at that party tonight? Dark thoughts swarmed through my mind, and I tried to push them away so I could enjoy the rest of the performance.
I was just about to manage just that when the football came running out with Austin leading the charge. The stadium went wild as the team took the field, and anger swelled inside me at just the sight of that stupid face.
Mia had been right the first day I met her. He is equally mean as he is pretty, and he isn't worth my time. Although, revenge is starting to sound better and better with each passing second now that I could see him. How have I not noticed how smug his smile is? Why do all of the girls in school like him so much?
I pealed my eyes off that cocky asshole and tried to spot Oscar again. I was here for him, and I should spend my time enjoying the band's performance. Once it was over, and they had marched to their bleachers in the end field, I couldn't stomach the idea of actually watching the football game.
