Chapter 12: Mountain Glenn

Sherbet's POV

We figured out that Ruby encountered an infiltrator on the night of the dance. Weiss, Blake, and Yang we crowding in front of Ruby, overwhelming her. I snapped my fingers to get there attention. They looked at me, to which I showed them my notepad, which was out of pages now. 'Give her some space, plus now I need a new notepad' They backed away from Ruby as Yang said. "S-Sorry Sherbet, we don't have another notepad with us. I give them an annoyed look since I won't be able to talk with them until I get one, or when they learn sign language. Ruby then told us what happened. Weiss then said. "That was a risky move" To which Blake disagreed. Yang then speaks. I'm sure it'll be alright, Ruby. I know what'll cheer you up" She pulls out a tube-like present from Taiyang. She opened it, to which Zwei popped out of it. How he fit in there, I have no clue. It looks like Blake is keeping a good distance from him. Probably because she's...a...cat faunus.... I silently laugh at this. "What's so funny?" I use sign language to answer, which probably nobody understands..well, maybe Weiss. 'Blake is a cat faunus, and she's keeping her distance from a dog' "Hey!" I'm surprised when Blake was the one to say that. "What did he say?" Yang asked, to which Blake didn't say. We were then called to the amphitheater. After a bit of debate, we decided to leave him here, but knowing Ruby, she's not doing that.

We learned that we were going to have a field trip. We were going to be shadowing a full-fledged huntsman. I told Professor Ozpin that I would work with team RWBY for this, which he was ok with. When we tried to do a Search and Destroy mission in quadrant 5, it said it wasn't available for first years. Ozpin then came by to bend the rules, allowing us to go. 

We walk out to the courtyard to meet our huntsman, then learn that team CFVY is back. Velvet has been keeping me updated with how their mission was, and she did tell me she'd be back today, but I decided not to say anything. We go over to see them. I wave at Velvet. "Hey Sherbet, what's up?" I start communicating through sign language again. 'I lost my notepad, so I have to communicate through sign language' "Oh. If you want, I could help you work on something to make it so you could speak in a way" 'Really? You don't have to' "Consider it a gift in return for helping me out with that Cardin situation" I give a thumbs up as team RWBY begin chatting with her. 

We then learn the huntsman we're shadowing is Professor Oobleck. "Why hello you five! Who's ready to fight for their lives?" None of us responded. After a bit of chat, he asked us to call him Dr. Oobleck. He then rushes to the airship. Nora then spoke from behind us. "You're going on world-saving missions without us? I'm hurt and sad! And maybe a little hungry? That last one's not my fault though, Ren!" After a bit of conversation with team JNPR, we boarded the airship with Dr. Oobleck. 

They were having conversation while I was looking out the window, uninterested. Usually it would be different, but I have been thinking about what Velvet said. Something that would allow me to speak? I would love to have something like that.  We then arrived at our destination and got off the airship in battle ready stances. Dr. Oobleck then says. "You all may still be students, but as of this moment, your first mission as huntresses and a huntsman has begun. From this point forward, you need to do exactly as I say. Do you understand?" We nod. "Ruby! I thought I told you to leave all your bags back at school" Oh dear god. After a bit of debating, Zwei popped out of her bag. Why am I not surprised? However, I am surprised when he is happy about it, saying that he would help with our hunt. He then tells us that there is a creature of grimm close by. We look to see one....then the whole pack. "And now they've seen us" "What?!" "And now they've seen us!" Oobleck and Weiss say. I ready my umbrella in its gun form, loading ice dust rounds into it. He then tells us to engage and show him what we can do. I immediately shoot the ice rounds at a group of them, then cut them down with the blade from my umbrella with ease. More then come at me, to which I parry their attacks and counter with my own.

 We continue taking down grimm, but our stamina is a bit low now. He then tells us how not every mission revolves around combat and heroism. He then goes on to question Yang, Weiss, and Blake, then moves onto me. "And you Sherbet? Why did you choose do be a huntsman instead of going into hiding from your past experiences?" I'm assuming Ozpin told him about my life before, so I begin using sign language. 'I feel that I need to make up for the things I've done in the past, plus I have someone I want to try and save' I was talking about Neo, if there is any chance I could try and get her back, I won't give it up. "Very well" 

He then tells us to set up camp in a building, which we do so, Blake giving me an occasional peck on the lips ever so often, which always caught me by surprise. The others were explaining that there was more to their reason to become a huntress that they told. I just did sign language, which Blake translated. "Sherbet says that his conviction is just what he said it to be, a chance at redemption, and a chance to save his sister" She translated. Oobleck and Ruby then come back. After a bit of speaking, Ruby and I volunteer for first watch. After a bit of debating, he allowed us both to do it. I then gave Blake a quick hug and kiss and let her sleep. Ruby and I then look off into the night as we hear a grimm howl.
