Chapter 35 – Chris POV

Crying pulled me back, I nodded towards the door, stopping at the crib that held Nicole, reaching for her and securing her against my chest easily, “what’s the matter pumpkin?” I cooed sweetly, her nickname from her favorite new solid food, while Michelle, was my sweet-pea. I brought my head down, inhaling, pressing a kiss upon her head and silently thanking all those involved for their continuous efforts to find Rainy… to make it so that at least Michelle and Nicole hadn’t had to suffer the same fate as the rest. They were the only two children, that I could hold, and show physical love.

Eight days in we knew a few things from the videos, not all things were recorded… Seth, that fucking bastard, didn’t record all his torturous ways. That or those viewing the videos hadn’t gotten to some things yet. Every once in a while a surge of anger ran over me, it was subtle, but to an older shifter like myself, I could feel it. Logan said it was those watching his the videos.

No one would get away with what happened… but he wouldn’t be watching to get their faces, he couldn’t… ‘I’d lose my mind if I had to watch it… no my guys are watching, compiling identities, one by one.’ His voice eerily calm.

As Nicole quieted in my arms, I waved the women forward, waiting until all the children had acknowledge the new faces that followed me.

“So… you guys know how we said you’d finally be going home tonight?” I asked, knowing I wouldn’t get a response, but Juliet had already confirmed what I knew, and that was we should talk to them, despite the blank impassive faces we were speaking to. Trying to make as much eye contact that would bring understanding, but also stopping before it made them all anxious.

Rainy nodded, even though she knew this already, “Well we are going on, but first before we all go, I wanted to let you guys meet these women…” I said nodding my chin towards them, “they are going to be helping you guys, teaching and playing with you… and if you need to talk they are there too…”

“So I know you won’t remember their names just yet, they wanted to come meet with you all, would it be okay if they told you their names?” I asked, doing as Juliet recommended, going easy, and making sure they knew that this was really on their time.

Always ready to model behavior for the children, Rainy stood coming over slowly, “Hi, it’s nice of you all to come down here,” she started politely, “I’m Rainy,” she finished, standing a good distance away speaking loudly for all the children to hear.

Smiling, encouragingly, Juliet started, “Well… everyone, Rainy, my name is Juliet,” making the introduction as short as possible, the others following, making as much eye contact with the children, before letting the next person introduce themselves.

“Guys… do you want to tell the nice ladies what your names are?” Rainy asked them, cheering all with a smile, but then focused on Michael beseechingly.

“Saywah,” Sarah answered when Michael – pleading with his eyes – had just remained silent, the others following her lead. When all went, leaving Michael last, Shavon, turned to him, “It’s okay that you aren’t ready to speak to us yet or tell us your name… would you mind if your mom told us?” She asked him kindly, waiting for a response patiently, until he gave one small nod.
