Chapter 17

Cheyenne:

"It's great to see him back to himself again" Uncle Damien said.

Shayne was over in the corner of the room talking to Uncle Noah. Today was his first day back from the hospital so we threw him a surprise welcome home party.

"I'm so glad he's okay" I said.

"I knew it, Shayne wouldn't leave you guys alone" Damien half joked.

"I tried to get him to buy me a new car while he was on the pain pills" I admitted.

"You're sneaky" He said laughing.

Out of the corner of my eye I saw Emma and Chloe walk up to my dad. They'd been just as worried for him as I had. I excused myself from Uncle Damien and went over to join their conversation.

"Me and Emma are so glad you're okay Mr. Topp" Chloe said

"Yeah, thank goodness you're well now" Emma said.

"Thanks girls, by the way, my wife told me about how you guys took care of Cheyenne" My dad said.

I hung back just a little bit to see what else he was gonna say.

"I appreciate you girls looking out for her, no matter how old she gets she's still my baby, if you ever need anything just ask" He said.

"Anything?" They both said raising their eyebrows.

"Excuse me" I said interrupting their conversation before it went farther.

"Hey Chey" Dad said.

"You probably shouldn't offer favors to these two hoodlums" I joked.

"Hey!" Emma said.

"We are not hoodlums" Chloe argued.

"What were you gonna ask him for then?" I said.

"Just a thank you is all we need Mr. Topp" Chloe said.

"Yeah don't worry about owing us" Emma said.

"Okay, well excuse but I have to go find my wife" Dad said chuckling.

After he left, Chloe and Emma turned to me.

"You totally did that on purpose" Emma said.

"Yeah now you owe us" Chloe said half seriously.

"Whatever" I said rolling my eyes.

The doorbell rang interrupting my conversation with Emma and Chloe.

"I'll get it" I said.

I went to the front door and opened it. Tom Carter was staring back at me holding flowers.

"Hey" He said.

"Hello" I said.

".... I uh just came by to see how you were doing and wish your dad well" He said.

"Is that what the flowers are for?" I asked.

"I didn't know what to get" He said sheepishly.

"Don't worry my dad loves flowers" I said smiling.

"Oh.. Uh these are actually for you" He said.

"For me?" I said confused.

"Yeah, I figured I would ask you out for a second try on our date" He said blushing.

"That was a date?" I said blushing.

"It was supposed to be" He said chuckling.

Before I could answer, my mother came around the corner and saw us.

"Cheyenne why is he still standing out there? Invite him in" My mom said.

"Uh do you want to come in?" I asked.

"Sure, thanks Mrs. Topp" Tom said.

"Nonsense, if she had any manners she would've invited you in 5 minutes ago" Mom said.

"Mom!" I whisper yelled annoyed.

She giggled and led us both back into the living room. Chloe and Emma both gave me the eyes.

"Who is this?" My dad asked.

"This is Tom, the boy I was telling you about" I said blushing.

"This is Tom?" Dad asked.

I saw my mom give him a slap on the arm.

"Oh!" He said.

I silently died from embarrassment.

"Nice to put a face to the name Tom" Dad said.

"Nice to meet you" Tom said.

Time skip...

"I'd like to thank everyone for coming out tonight" My dad announced.

Everyone smiled and applauded him.

"After experiencing something like that, it made me thankful for everything in my life" He said.

"Can Olivia and Cheyenne join me real quick?" Dad asked.

I felt my mom grab my hand as we walked over and stood beside my dad.

"I just want to say how thankful for my friends I am" He began.

"But more importantly, I realized how much these two people mean to me, so I wanted to give you each somethim" He said.

My mom and I looked at each other.

"Do you know what's going on?" I whispered to her.

"No" She whispered back.

"Damien?" Dad said motioning for something.

Uncle Damien reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a black box that he handed to my dad. Dad then handed it to mom.

"Open it" He said.

Mom gave a confused look before opening the little black box. Her eyes went wide as she covered her mouth with here hand.

"Shayne... You shouldn't have.." She said.

I looked and saw a gold ring covered in diamonds. Damn dad, way to ball out.

"Since we're already married, thank God, the next best thing I could think of was a promise ring" Dad began.

He lifted the ring out of the box and placed it on her finger.

"This ring symbolizes my promise to you that I'll never leave you again" He finished.

"Awww" Everyone said and cheered.

My mom teared up a little bit while she engulfed him in a tight hug.

"Oh and don't think I forgot about you Cheyenne" Dad said.

I watched him as he pulled something out of his pocket. Another black box but this one a little larger. He handed it to me gently. I opened it up and saw a beautiful gold necklace with a locket. I opened the locket and saw an old picture of him holding me when I was a toddler.

"So I'm never not with you" He explained.

Everyone awwed again.

I gave him a grateful hug as I felt mom join in on the hug.

"Group hug!" Somebody shouted and soon everyone was embracing each other.

"Oh and also, sorry for ruining your date with Tom" Dad joked.

"Dad!" I said blushing.

Everyone laughed.
