Continued Reality: A Voltron Fanfiction

MRAWL ENCOUNTER

     "Hunk, chill!" Keith yells. "I don't need anybody panicking! We need to keep level heads if we're going to defeat this thing."

     "I love your optimism Keith, but did you see what these things did to that planet?" Veronica says, riding with Lance in the blue lion. "How do you think you're going to defeat it?"

     "There were a bunch of them on Xeras," Keith says. "Right now, there's only one. Form sword!"

     Romelle's Bayard port glows, and she stares at it for a moment in confusion. But once she realizes what the lion is trying to tell her, she grabs her Bayard and shoves it into the port. Voltron's sword appears in his hand, and he stands at the ready to face the creature.

     The Mrawl launches itself at Voltron, swiping with as many of its legs as it can. Voltron blocks the attack with the sword, noticing the sharp claws at the end of each leg.

     "We probably want to avoid those things," Hunk shouts.

     "Ya think?" Lance retorts.

     The Mrawl attacks again, this time teleporting before Voltron can block the attack. It reappears directly on Voltron's back, biting at his head. Voltron swings the sword at the Mrawl, but is unable to touch it. So he reaches up and grabs the Mrawl with his hand, but the creature just teleports out of his grasp.

     "That teleporting thing is really getting annoying!" Pidge shouts. When she hears a small yip from Kosmo she adds, "No offense."

     "Hey Allura, could you maybe make this thing go away like you did those sparky creatures?" Hunk asks.

     "Look out!" Lyna screams as the Mrawl attacks yet again. Voltron swings the sword as quickly as possible, which collides with the Mrawl's head. The creature shrieks, but shakes it off and doesn't seem phased. It disappears, and reappears behind Voltron, smacking him with the tail end of its body, sending Voltron flying.

     "We can't catch a break!" Lance says.

     "What did Allura say?" Hunk asks.

     "I, um... haven't heard from her since she showed us the vision on Xeras," Lance admits.

     "You mean, she's gone?" Hunk asks.

     "Guys, we need to focus!" Keith shouts.

     Suddenly, they hear horrific laughter. "So, this is the mighty Voltron I've heard about. I must say, I'm a bit underwhelmed."

     With horror, the gang realize this is coming from the Mrawl. "Whoa, hold up... they can talk?!" Hunk shouts.

     Voltron maintains a defensive position. "Why are you doing this?" Keith asks the creature. "Why did you destroy that planet?"

     The Mrawl laughs again. "Because we can," it says. "Our kind have been hidden for a long time, but now we arise again!"

     "Why have you been hiding?" Keith asks.

     "Why we were hiding is no matter," the Mrawl replies. "We no longer have to! We–"

     Suddenly, Lance's markings begin to glow. The Mrawl shivers, and begins to back away from Voltron. "I... I sense a strange presence," it says. "I must tell the others!"

     Voltron leaps toward the Mrawl, attempting to swing the sword at it. But the creature disappears before the sword can make contact.

     "Okay," Hunk says, confused. "What freaked it out?"

     "Allura, are you okay?" Lance asks worriedly.

     I'm sorry for disappearing on you like that, Allura replies. I was... distracted.

     "We really could have used your help," Lance tells her, but his voice is caring and full of concern.

     I know, I sensed that the Mrawl was attacking you. But I was still trying to put some of the pieces together from the vision I showed you.

     "Did you find out anything?" Lance asks.

     Once again, it would be easier if I just showed you...

     "How are you gonna–" Before Lance can finish, he suddenly feels very sleepy. Unable to control what is happening, he falls back in his chair and closes his eyes.

     "Lance!" Veronica says, running to catch her brother before he slides down out of the chair.

     "Uhhh... did he just fall asleep?" Hunk asks.

     "Give him a minute," Keith says. "We seem to be out of danger, for now. Whatever Allura is doing must be important."

Lance awakens to see a shimmery world around him. No, he knows better than to believe he is awake. He is still in the blue lion, so this must be a dream. Or, similar to a dream. Maybe another vision?

     "Lance," he hears Allura's voice say.

     "Allura?" He says excitedly. "Where are you?"

     "You will still be unable to see me," she tells him. "But I have something I need to show you..."

     The shimmering view around Lance begins to move and transform. It becomes the blackness of space, which Lance seems to be floating in unharmed. He flies past planets and stars, and even sees Altea. But not far away from Altea, in the same system, he sees another planet. He can feel Allura focusing on this planet, so he can tell it is important, but it doesn't look like much. It is dull and lifeless with swirls of brown and black surrounding it.

     "Alright, what am I looking at?" Lance asks.

     "Honestly, I don't know yet. I remember this planet being in our system when I was growing up on Altea, and it never seemed important. But somehow, I can feel that it is important."

     "How is it–" But before he can continue, he feels himself waking up...

"Welcome back bro," Veronica says, patting Lance on the back as he comes to with a groan.

     "What happened?" Hunk asks.

     "Did Allura tell you anything?" Pidge adds.

     "She... She showed me a vision of this planet in the same system as Altea," he replies. "She doesn't know how yet, but she says it's important."

     "Should we go there?" Pidge asks.

     "One thing at a time," Keith says. "We're here at New Celaria right now. Let's see if we can learn more about this Kloflax first."
