Part II.

Part two of our previous soulmate prompt with Mr. Powers. "Your soulmate's name/nickname is tattooed on your wrist."

......................................................................................

You stared wide-eyed, jaw slack, at the smirking man in front of you. "Are you okay darlin'?" You almost swooned at the nickname, snapping from your daze. "Y-yeah. I just wasn't expecting to meet my soulmate in the army." Shifty's smile fell. He had assumed that you would be just as happy to meet him as he was to meet you. But maybe he was wrong. Maybe you didn't want to settle down or have a soulmate. He knew a couple of people like that, he just never expected that his own soulmate would have the same mentality.

Although he tried to stop, a look of hurt flashed across Shifty's face and you felt your heart flutter and sink. "Don't get me wrong! I am so happy to have met you, I'm just a little shock 'sall." His child-like grin was back and his cheeks flushed. You stared dreamily at him. "You're beautiful Ms. Y/L/N." You nodded. "That's very kind of you to say Mr. Powers, but you don't have to say that." He grinned down at you, shaking his head. "I'm not just saying that to produce a good reaction, ma'am. Or the funny feelin in your tummy that kinda feels a little like butterflies. I'm saying that 'cause it's true. You're one hundred percent picturesque."

From the first moment of soulmate realization, you and Shifty were indivisible. And there was nothing anyone could do about it.

"DARRELL!!!" You didn't blame anybody for Shifty being where he was. It's not like anyone could change it. However that didn't exactly calm your nerves when a machine gun turned it's lethal fire onto your boyfriend. The smoke and debris flying everywhere made it impossible for you to see if Shifty was okay and that alone was torturous. Finally when the dust cleared, and the fire stopped, Lipton, who was standing next to you, called out. Thank heavens he was okay.

The second the battle ended you had launched yourself at Shifty and smashed your lips to his. Usually the men would complain about the two of you loving each other up. But now that word had gotten around about what happened, no one dared to come between the two of you. After finally pulling away, a rosy tint covered Shifty's cheeks and he was looking around sheepishly. "What was that for Darlin'?" You pressed a finger on his lips and very seriously grasped his face between your hands.

"Do not EVER do that to me again. Do you understand me Darrell Powers?" Shifty's eyebrows shot up in surprise. He had not known that he was in trouble. "Yes ma'am." You hung onto Shifty for the remainder of the day, only letting go to tend to wounded men or to momentarily trace along Shity's name on your wrist. Currently you were tending to Liebgott. Joe was easily angered and an injury, even as tiny as the one he had now, did not exactly sit well with him.

He let out another large puff of air and yanked on the arm that you had recently wrapped. "Hey! Be careful that took me a long time." His face turned towards you in a sneer. "Would've been quicker if you weren't hanging on to Shifty like a leech." His words cut deeply into your subconscious, pulling away from Shifty who immediately pulled you back into his arms. Shifty was not satisfied with Joe's implication nor your unwarranted desire to suddenly escape his grasp.

Despite your nagging insecurities you also felt, you were extremely angry. "Don't you dare speak to me like that Joseph Liebgott. I've been with you all since Toccoa and in case you forgot who I was, I'll let you bleed out right here on this table." This definitely wasn't a wound Joe could die from, but he didn't know that. He fixed you with a steely glare before relenting and allowing you to finish patching him up.

You had just barely finished up caring for Liebgott when Talbert came rushing into the aid station, helping another soldier carried a wounded Lipton. You knew Lipton closely. He kept a close eye on you, especially around men that were not in Easy. As soon as he was placed on the table, you sent Tab out to find Doc Roe to help you. You scanned him for injuries noticing the cut on his cheek and the blood on his pants.

"Lip I usually would not get this personal with you, however the cut on your cheek is pretty small and I have to make sure that the shrapnel didn't hit a major artery in the thigh." Lipton nodded and offered you a soft smile. Turning around, you ruffled around for your scissors before having had enough and taking Shifty's bayonet from it's holster. You cut straight down his pants leg and observed the wound. Luckily there wasn't a lot of blood so it was probably just a surface wound.

You had to be sure though. Just as you were about to cut his boxers and have a look, Roe came running in. You let out a large sigh of relief and let him take over down there, resorting to looking at his cheek instead. Lipton's face was inflamed and you were sure yours was too. Once he was taken care of, you let Shifty guide you out of the tent.

The instant the two of you were alone Shifty broke out into the cutest smile and fit of laughter ever. "It's not funny!!" You tried to keep a straight face and remain angry but he was just too damn cute. "Sure it isn't darlin'."
