Chapter 7

Kai's POV

The next day at school is eventful.

I walk into first period and realize that Lukas is in my class, so I sit near him. He has his friends, Tessa and Camden, sitting on either side of him so I sit in front. Nobody wants to sit near him in case he snaps at them.

Looking back at him, I give him a smile. All Lukas does is nod, practically ignoring me. His friends look at him questioningly, knowing that we hate each other.

He just ignores their questions, and continues staring at nothing. The teacher walks in, a man in his late forties, and starts the lesson.

This is the period I missed yesterday so I actually pay attention. Don't want to have another reason for my dad to be mad at me.

Once the lesson is over, we have a few minutes to chat with our friends. I immediately turn to Lukas, wanting to talk to him. He looks uncomfortable, like he'd rather be anywhere else.

I start off solidly with, "Hi, how has you're day been?"

Lukas just scoffs, his pink lips turning up slightly, "It's first period... the day has hardly begun."

Nodding, I pretend like he didn't just sass me. Keeping my spirits up, I talk to him like in any other conversation, "Yesterday, I told my mom about us and she took it well. I don't know how my dad is going to take it, he is very homophobic."

Lukas surprisingly gives me a sympathetic look, saying, "I'm sorry about your dad. I'm grateful my parents are gay and understand. My dads took it really well."

I give him a sad smile and confess, "I'm scared to tell my dad. I don't know how he'll react, I don't want to get kicked out of the house or anything."

Still having that sympathetic gaze, he just nods his head, and seems to be lost in thought. He finally says something, apologizing. "I'm sorry for making this hard on you... I really don't try to. It's just so new to me."

Giving him a sad smile, I respond, "I understand, opening up is hard after not doing it for so long. We can take this slow, one step at a time."

Lukas gives me a real smile, seemingly grateful. The bell rings and I'm off to my next class.

Maybe this won't be so bad.
