Chapter 7: A Unique Present

Ezra POV

It had been so long and she hadn’t said a word. She hadn’t asked her father or uncle, I mean other father Ronan, about her dream. Why hadn’t she asked? I knew she was curious and I knew it had plagued her. I knew it killed her and I saw the worry that she tried so hard to have kept from me.

Maybe I should have said something. I hadn’t wanted to have ruined her birthday with a myriad of questions and concerns though. Sure, technically it wasn’t her birthday until 12:02 am, but what was a couple of hours in the grand scheme of things?

We had planned to spend the night together, and no, not in that way. We had always done this, ever since I could remember. The night before her birthday was mine. It was a best friend thing and it was what she wanted. Who in their right mind would have, or could have refused her? As if anyone had the power to refuse her, she made it unbelievably difficult.

While I waited for her to get ready, I decided to speak with Xavier and Ronan. I figured I would let them in on her dream so they wouldn’t have been blindsided by her inquiries. I found them together in Xavier’s study where they made last minute plans for her big birthday party.

“Can I talk to you guys for a minute, it’s about Lia.” I asked apprehensively while I knocked on the half opened door. I felt nervous. I hadn’t known why that was, but being around these two sometimes raised my anxiety level.

“Sure kid, what’s up?” Ronan asked calmly while he beckoned me with his hand gesture. For being 38, he was decidedly young. He seemed more like a horny teenager than an adult. Maybe it was his looks, his messy blond hair and piercing violet eyes, but I guessed that it was more his personality.

“She’s been having this dream over and over. It really bothers her and scares her. The first time she had it was a few weeks ago when she stayed over. It really freaked her out, she cried for like a half an hour.” I explained thoughtfully, a hint of concern leaked into my voice. It was a simple explanation. I hadn’t wanted to have gone into any further detail. I felt as though I betrayed her by what little I had already said.

“She hasn’t said anything to me about this. I think she would have mentioned it if it bothered her that much.” Ronan responded plainly. He seemed certain that it was nothing, but I knew that it wasn’t.

“Look, I was there. I held her as she shook with fear and cried her eyes out. Trust me, it bothers her a lot.” I replied with worry that maybe I had spoken words that I shouldn’t have. What happened between us in private, was just that, private. I sighed.

“I think it’s about her secret. She dreamed about her eyes and some woman who seemed to be… Princess Arianna.” As the words fell from my lips, a shocked and saddened look crossed both of their faces.

It pained them to have thought about her or even heard her name spoken aloud. They both must have loved her so much. I regretted that I’d brought it up, but this wasn’t about them, it was about Lia. There was nothing I wouldn't have done for her.

“I didn’t say anything, don’t worry. But I think you should talk to her.” I announced calmly when the pained expression had fallen from their faces and was replaced by a more anxious one.
