while san had gone off to find some games for them to play, wooyoung was left at a small table placed in the lounge.
he looked around seeing a few doctors, as well as some patients —who may or may not have felt the same as him. even if they did, wooyoung didn't care.
throughout his life, he was always the type to care. but when his last hope had finally left him, he had no hope. he gave up on caring, and just couldn't force that smile of his anymore.
wooyoung did have to force a smile towards san though, he seemed happy to be playing board games with him. he didn't want to make san feel useless as he brought at least 7 board games and placed them on the table with a sigh.
"pick one, i'm okay with either of them." san stated, pulling a chair out to join wooyoung, who just stared at the games cluelessly.
"what's the matter?" the other furrowed his eyebrows, in a way that made wooyoung feel small. "nothing just, i've never played board games before.."
wooyoung swallowed saliva, seeing the look on san's face made him feel like he was no fun. he hadn't played board games before after all, wooyoung had never had the time for them.
for the past three years it was nothing but hospital food, dealing with the patients at his old hospital, and forcing a smile. there was no fun and games in that, while his family never had board games to begin with.
"stop frowning! you can teach me." wooyoung nudged san, who was pouting playfully. he wasn't trying to make wooyoung feel bad, he just felt bad, that wooyoung hadn't experienced actual fun before.
"they have pool too, it'll be fun trust me." san reassures, pulling out the game labeled 'scrabble' a game he played a lot, alone.
"i used to play this a lot before you came here, so it should be no big deal teaching you how to play." san looked over at wooyoung, seeing that he was already examining the game.
"ready?" wooyoung forced yet another, soft smile towards san as he nodded. "whenever you are."
"okay, the game is simple. 'the object of the game is to get the most points by playing words on a board that you connect to words created by your fellow players." san had read of the instructions, waiting for wooyoung to say he understood.
"it seems easy..." wooyoung admitted, "go easy on me though? i have no experience whatsoever." san just smiled, ruffling the top of wooyoung's hair as he had done before.
"don't worry."
and with that, wooyoung had learned what fun was. he might've actually smiled once or twice while playing the game with san, but stubbornly would not admit it.
he just felt happy that san was trying so hard to cheer him up, and it was working. well i guess he wouldn't use happy, wooyoung was grateful.
if it weren't for him, he would probably be crying his eyes out in his hospital room right now. which, what could be more depressing then that?
it wasn't long before they had finished all seven games; scrabble, monoply, connect 4, sorry, battleship, uno, and just card games in general. wooyoung was tired, and ended up falling asleep with his head laid on the table, while in mid-convo with san about soda.
it wasn't the best conversation, but wooyoung didn't mind it. as he found san's voice was quite relaxing to listen to.
san had no problem carrying wooyoung back to his hospital bed though, the boy didn't actual weigh that much and it made san wonder if he ever actually ate as much as san had thought.
he was learning a lot about wooyoung, and soon would not regret it. wooyoung had an amazing and heart warming personality that san had already grown to love.
