Beep.
Fight.
"We aren't certain when she will wake up." I hear a faded voice speak. "We aren't completely sure if she will." The man tells them and I can hear the certainty in his voice even though he is trying to hide it.
"Daddy," I hear a faint voice pause, "is mommy going to be ok?"
I will not lay here 'dying' as the doctor puts it as he tells my son that I may not be okay.
Beep.
Spectator POV
Mateo looks over at his son with sad eyes and sighs, "Hopefully buddy." He smiles slightly at him.
Luca looks over at his mom and sighs.
"There is more.." Doctor Philis tells Mateo who immediately looks away from Luca and to the doctor, he even got Lucas attention.
"What is it?" Mateo asks as Luca gets up, walks over to his dad and hugs onto his leg.
"Were you aware she was pregnant?" Dr. Philis asks Mateo.
Mateos eyes widen and he looks over at Rue and all he can think about is the fact that Mark was the father.
"Is mommas baby okay?" Luca asks.
"Yeah is the baby okay?" Mateo repeats the question.
The doctor smiles a little and looks straight at Mateo, "You mean babies?" He asks.
"What?" Mateo asks in utter disbelief.
Luca runs over to his mothers bed, climbs onto it and lays his head on her stomach.
"How many exactly?" Mateo questions the doctor.
"Three." The doctor tells him but then frowns. "There is more but I should be telling Rue this also." He explains to Mateo who nods.
They hear someone groan and cough. They look over to Rues bed and see her jerking side to side.
Mateo quickly grabs Luca off the bed as Rue jerks side to side.
"No!" She screams as she sits up quickly. Dr. Philis rushes over to her side and gently lowers her back onto her pillow. "W-where am I?" She asks as her head meets the pillow.
"The hospital.." Mateo answers her.
"H-how?" She looks straight at Mateo and questions everything. "Whe-Where is Luca?" She asks as she looks around the room for her son.
Luca peaks around Mateos leg and looks at his mom.
Rue smiles ever so lightly and holds her arms open for him to climb into.
Mateo picks him up and sits him on the bed by Rue who hugs him and whispers in his ear as he whispers back.
"Rue, can I ask you some questions?" Dr. Philis looks at her and asks.
She nods as Luca makes his self comfortable by his mom.
"Were you aware that you were pregnant?" He asks as he prepares to write her answer down.
"Yes." She answers without hesitation.
"Y-you knew?" Mateo asks her. She nods as she looks down at Luca and kisses the top of his head.
"Well Rue, you are carrying not one but three child." Dr. Philis tells her.
"A-are they okay?" She asks as the fear takes over.
"Yes and no.. 2 of the child are fine, baby a and baby b are completely healthy." He explains to her slowly. "But baby c.. we aren't sure. He/she was in the direct line of the bullet and one spot where you got stabbed." Rue touches her stomach and tears up.
"B-but it will be okay right..?" She asks him as a tear falls down her cheek.
"As far as we can tell there is no bleeding coming from the baby. It does look like the bullet missed C but we arent sure about the knife, it looks as though it may have hit C's head but it doesn't appear to be serve." He further explains, "But I must warn you, there is a 70% chance that C will not survive, there is a option of going ahead and removing C so it doesn't cause problems with A and B, but there ar-"
"No." Rue answers plainly.
"Excuse me?" Dr. Philis asks confused.
"This is a living being inside me. Just like his siblings he will have a chance to fight." She tells him.
"Okay." He nods. "You are far enough along to tell genders, would you like to know?"
Rue nods and Dr. Philis leaves the room.
"You knew?" Mateo asks.
"Yes. Not about the fact that its triplets but I knew that I was carrying a child." She told him.
"I'm gonna be a brother?" Luca asks excited.
"Mhm." Rue nods and smiles.
Mateo stares at her confused.
"Luca can you go find Aunty Ava in the waiting room?" Mateo asks him. Luca nods and kisses his moms cheek then slides off the bed and out the door.
"What's wrong?" Rue asks Mateo.
"Your happy." He asks as he sits on the edge of her bed and runs his fingers through his hair.
"Is that not okay?" She asks smiling.
"No!" He raises his voice making Rue jump. He takes deep breaths trying to calm down. "You were dying Rue." He chokes out and looks up at her. "I was holding you in my arms and you were bleeding out, dying." He held his arms out as he explained to her.
"I know." She tells him. She sits up and places a hand on his hand. "But I have people to fight for." She smiled at him as a tear slipped down her cheek.
He held her hand and sighed. "Y-you gonna have his kids." Mateo said as he looked over at her.
She only nods. "I have to." She tells him as she tries not to cry.
"Why?" He asks. "Why do you have to?"
"Jazlyn.." She starts to tell him but she chokes on her words and pauses, "She was there." She told him as she traced his thumb with hers.
"Where?" He asks as he looks straight into her eyes.
"While they were operating on me. It was like a out of body experience." She smiles. "She showed me you and Luca in the waiting room, she was the one who convince me to fight, " Rue squeezes Mateos hand, "for my children, for you."
