head in the clouds. chapter fifteen.
SUMMARY ; home doesn't feel like home anymore.

i found love where it wasn't supposed to be
right in front of me, talk some sense to me
——

MARGO PEELED her eyes open the following morning, quietly wincing from how sore they were due to all the crying she had done. margo lifted her hand up from out of the blankets and reached up to rub at her eyes, wiping at her face once more to rid of the dried tears. rolling over to lay on her back and stare up at the ceiling, margo wasn't sure what to do next, jeffrey was long gone by now, and the thought of that shattered her heart.

was she supposed to go back to what life was like before she met jeffrey? margo could barely remember that, what little she did remember consisted of margo acting out for attention from older males she barely knew and having to stay clear of horror movies since she was never able to fall asleep afterwards, with jeffrey sitting next to her she could watch all the scary movies she wanted.

she couldn't help but wonder what jeffrey would do, where would he go? he'd be all alone, margo couldn't stand that thought. or worse, he meets someone new and god forbid they have a bratty teenage daughter as well, margo would not be happy with that. no one else was allowed to get as close to him as she did, she would surely lose it if she ever saw another spoiled girl hanging onto his every word.

she missed him so much her heart hurt, and it hadn't even been a full twenty four hours.

diana decided to cut the trip short and head home that day, which didn't surprise nor disappoint margo, the last thing she wanted to do was spend time with her mother, so it was best for the two to leave the sunshine state and go back home where they could avoid one another in their bedrooms. neither of them have spoken a word, not any of the times they passed each other in the hallway packing to leave nor on the car ride to the airport. it was never this silent with jeffrey.

margo sat by the window on the plane ride home, the center seat being left vacant with her mother siting by the isle. the blonde couldn't help but steal glances at the empty chair between her and her mother every now and then. that was jeffrey's spot, he was supposed to be there. everything felt so different without him, something was missing, it was similar to that wait i forgot something feeling, like there was something — or someone — that was supposed to be there and it wasn't.

margo rested her temple against the cool glass of the small oval window, watching the white puffy clouds beneath them. she couldn't help but think back to the last time she was on the plane and seconds away from crashing, she thought for sure she would've had a hard time getting back on one, but not with the new circumstances she was in, she couldn't bring herself to care what the outcome was. if she had no jeffrey, she truly had no one.

the plane ride felt like it took ages longer than usual but maybe that was only because margo was way too close to her mother for her own comfort, she wanted far away from diana, as fast as possible. that woman has ruined everything in margo's perspective, she had nothing left to say to her. margo wondered if jeffrey would answer her text or her phone call, was he truly just going to up and leave? disappear without another word? after everything they've been through? margo couldn't bring herself to believe that.

diana had one of her friends from work drive to the airport to come get the two, she had left her a spare key to their jeep before they left for the trip. margo couldn't remember the woman's name nor did she care any, being polite was the last thing on her mind. margo stayed silent the whole journey home, with each passing mile they got closer and closer to the house, margo's dread built higher and higher. that house was not a home without jeffrey, it wasn't complete without him.
