Passage [Ty Simpkins]

Thirteen

Maya has been spending most of her time studying for her SATs. She was already quite stressed over college applications. SATs just added on to it.

Since Maya had the SATs coming up, her parents enrolled her in an SAT prep course. Maya wasn't too thrilled about it but she agreed to go.

Right after school ended on Monday, Maya headed over to where the SAT prep course was being held at. Mason and Madison agreed to take Peter home on the days that Maya had the SAT course.

Maya would do anything to jump off a cliff. She had taken this course twice the previous school year. She took the SATs twice so far and she wanted to take it a third time.

After the prep course ended, Maya rushed home to work on her homework.

When the weekend rolled around, Maya found herself back at school on Saturday for the SAT to take it.

Mason and Madison were both there, wanting to take it as well.

Maya yawned as they waited to take the SAT.

There were mostly juniors there and Ty was one of them.

"H - hey," Ty yawned.

It was quite early. They had to come into school during the weekend to take the SAT.

"Hey," Maya said.

She lifted her hoodie's sleeve and scratched her arm.

"How do you feel about the SAT?"

"I think I'll do okay," Maya said.

Ty nodded.

"You?"

"Yeah, same here," Ty said.

Ty sat next to Maya and leaned back.

They talked to each other until it was time to go in and take the SAT.

After it ended, Maya and Ty got into Maya's car and she drove to Starbucks.

"Hi, what can I get you?" the barista asked.

Maya and Ty had gone through the drive thru.

"Hi," Maya responded. "Um, I'd like an iced vanilla latte and..."

She looked at Ty.

"Um," Ty said, for a moment, "same thing."

"Actually, can you make it two iced vanilla lattes?" Maya requested.

"Sure," the barista said. "Anything else?"

"And... cinnamon raisin bagel," Maya said, "and..."

"A plain bagel," Ty said.

"And a plain bagel."

"With cream cheese?"

"Yes," Ty said.

"Yes," Maya said.

"Is that all?"

"Yeah, that's it," Maya said. "Thank you!"

Maya drove up to the next window and she and Ty split the cost of their drinks and bagels.

Maya ended up spending the rest of the day with Ty, just hanging out.
