3 Days Later, At the Demon Slayer Headquarters..

"You traitor! I can't believe you, Yoriichi!"

"How can you let him escape as well as that Demon girl!?"

"Michikatsu shall suffer the consequences for turning into a demon!"

The Demon Slayer Hashiras exclaimed as Yoriichi was being harshly accused and right in front of the Newest head of the Demon Slayer Corps..

Yoriichi remained completely silent of this predicament yet it was evident that we has grieving for what his brother has committed himself into

As an act of mercy from the Young Master Ubuyashiki, He was given the choice to decide his fate and  resulted for him to leave the Corps for good..

Yoriichi held no regret to his decision yet if the Kakushi hadn't interfered the Water and Rock Hashira from forcing him out of Headquarters, he wouldn't had known that he wasn't the only one that was abandoned by Michikatsu.

Yoriichi's pov

'Natsumi..' I thought as I saw the Kakushi placed down Natsumi's wooden box right in front of me along with a thick bindle of neatly folded clothes inside it

"We were asked to give this to Master Yoriichi for his departure" we heard as the Wind Hashira, Kaze Kazama, raised a brow on them

"Who told you to bring it to him?"

"No one did, Master Kaze.. We found a note that was left on top of this box.. It had a request to take it to Master Yoriichi once he returns.."

"Yes, it was supposedly prepared for his departure" The Kakushis explained, I couldn't help but feel my eyes slightly widen as I quickly turned my head towards the front, just to take a good look at the wooden box that was placed right before me..

As always, the door of Natsumi's box was locked yet the wooden panel on the top of the box was slightly ajared

I swallowed slightly as I peeked through the ajared wooden panel, only to catch sight of Natsumi's sleeping figure inside the box

I felt my shoulders relaxed and suddenly grew lighter as I closed the panel before getting the box strapped to my back as I picked up the bindle next to it

"Thank you, I'll take my leave now.." I stated as Suiren and the Rock Hashira, Kibisii Yamaguchi, escorted me towards the main gate and slammed the doors shut right in front of my face

I sighed softly and glanced towards my back and gave a sad smile towards Natsumi's box

"At least.. I still have you with me, Natsumi.." I whispered before turning my attention towards the road and started walking as far away from Headquarters as possible..

I went far and traveled a long distance for several hours, I needed to find a place to take shelter in as soon as possible

A place that was safe and isolated, a place that was completely abandoned by human life, a place that had everything that could handle our basic needs..

I thought about it for a few hours before finally coming to a conclusion, I took a sharp turn and started heading South to head over towards Natsumi's home village.

Later that Night, At Michikatsu's Home Mansion..

'I made it..' Yoriichi though as he stood right in front of Michikatsu's family mansion, just a few feet away from the village..

Seeing how the house remained intact and completely untouched after all these years, he was relieved that he would at least have something good to remember his brother by even after the crimes he has committed..

Yoriichi didn't waste another second of his time and immediately entered the abandoned household and paid no mind for its messy interior

'It's better than nothing I suppose.. I'll just have to clean it in the morning and repair the damages as well..' He thought as he started up a small campfire by the fireplace and sat down next to it for some warmth

While Natsumi slept her way throughout the night, Yoriichi had remained vigilant of his surroundings almost throughout the entire night yet he couldn't help but dose off a couple of times when all is calm and quiet.

The Next Morning..

Yoriichi's pov

"Hn.. Nn.." I moaned softly as I awoke from my slumbers and turned my head towards the window to see the sun rise

"Daybreak.. I should get to cleaning this place then.." I muttered as I glanced over my shoulder and looked directly at Natsumi's box with a sad look on my face

I gave a soft sigh before slowly having to take off her box from my back and placed it somewhere dark and completely away from the sun's reach before turning to leave the room

I gave her one last glance before heading off to start work on Aniue's mansion..

Making the mansion a suitable place to live in, Repairing all the damages it was given, Having to clean the mansion from top to bottom

I did it all on my own for Natsumi's sake, if I were to take care of her all on my own I have to learn how to be an independent parent like Aniue did in the past..

'I will protect Natsumi no matter what.. I will cherish the memory I have left of Aniue..' I thought as I finally finished my work

I panted slightly in exhaustion as I wiped the sweat off my face and went inside to rest my aching limbs and cool off a bit from the scrounging heat of the sun

"Oji-san?" I heard as I turned my head towards the doorway and caught of Natsumi standing there with a plate of riceballs in her hands

"Natsumi?"

"Here.. I made some riceballs for you to eat"

"When did you wake up?" I asked as she sat down right beside me and placed the riceballs in front of me

"Just a few hours ago while you were outside, planting seeds at the backyard garden.." she stated

"I see.. I'm glad you finally woke up.." I stated and pet her head as she gave a soft yet pleasant little growl in response before I turned my attention back to the plate in front of me

I could already hear my stomach growling in starvation and urging me to eat, reluctantly, I obeyed my body's needs and ate the freshly made riceballs before me

Yet, there was something that had me curious..

'Where did Natsumi get the rice from?' I wondered as I glanced down towards her and noticed the sad look on her face that made it obvious she was thinking about Aniue

I sighed softly and decided to ask anyway, to lighten up her mood

"Where did you get the rice from, Natsumi?"

"Oh.. I packed it with me.."

"You packed it?" She nodded, I didn't bothered ask any further yet I did tried to give a small smile towards her, and show her my gratitude for her efforts

"I'm glad you liked it, Oji-san.."

"Natsumi.. Would you be alright on your own? I'll be heading out to hunt.. Think you can handle staying here all by yourself?" I asked as she nodded

"I can manage, Oji-san.." I smiled softly and pet her head "Good girl.." I stated as I went to fetch my Nichirin sword before getting escorted out to the front door with her

"Now, I'll be back in an hour or so.. Take care of yourself while I'm away, okay?"

"Yes, Oji-san.." I heard as I pet her head one last time before heading out to hunt at the forest.
