Daybreak, At the Kamado Household..

Sumiyoshi's pov

'Hmm.. What's taking them so long? Did they get lost? or perhaps, a Demon decided to show up?' I wondered as I looked around the forest for any signs our guests

"Is something wrong, Sumiyoshi?" Suyako asked as I sighed softly and admitted my concerns

"I'm getting worried.. Yoriichi said that he'll be here before dawn with Natsumi but it's been long past since the sun rose and they still hadn't showed up.." I stated as Suyako smiled towards me

"Don't worry, dear.. I'm sure they'll be here soon.." she assured as I smiled and nodded towards her

"You're right.. I'm just letting this get in my head.." I stated as I stood up and dusted my pants a bit before heading off to do some work

I gone off to strap on a woven basket on my back and brought along my hatchet with me, before heading off to gather up some wood for today's batch of charcoal..

"Huh? Is this.. Paint?" I wondered as I passed by yet another set of trees with red stained trunks, not only that but even the grass was caked with this substance

As if a bullet was shot right through me, I immediately came to realized what this red substance was..

Human Blood..

"M-My, G-G-God.." I stuttered as I felt my breathing hitched at the thought of what could have possibly happened here, only to get snapped out of my thoughts from the sound of groaning coming from a nearby distance

I quickly followed the noise and soon found Michikatsu's daughter lying on the ground with her clothes caked with blood while a sword rests beside her along with its sheath

I couldn't move, I didn't know what to do yet the second I saw the sun coming up I started to act quickly and went with my instincts

I picked up the sword on the ground and put it back on its sheath before attempting to carry Natsumi's body and take her home with me before the sun could burn her to death..

2 Days Later..

"How is she doing Suyako?" I asked as I seated myself beside her while she has occupied herself with cleaning Natsumi's body with a dumped cloth

"She hasn't awoken up yet but she seems to be doing better than expected.." I heard as I looked down towards Michikatsu's daughter and feel really bad for what happened to her

'What could have happened to her? And, where was Yoriichi? Why was she even alone?' I wondered as my eyes wondered down towards Michikatsu's daughter..

Sumire even felt sad to see her in this state, while Suyako and I felt really worried about Natsumi, seeing her remain in a deep slumber for two whole days seemed a little too unnatural for us to comprehend

Compared to Yoriichi and Michikatsu, we never had any experiences in taking care of Demons, much less kept one on our own..

"Dear? Do you think you can handle it from here, while I go prepare Lunch?"

"Sure!" I replied as Suyako smiled and headed off towards the kitchen to prepare Lunch, while I watched over Sumire and Natsumi for the time being.

A Few Hours Later, Early Evening..

Suyako's pov

"Come on, Sumire.. Let's go before your father gets worried" I stated as Sumire and I began making our way back home before it gets too dark for us to see..

"Mama? Is Sumi gonna sleep more again?"

"I'm not sure, Sumire.. Maybe, Natsumi is still too tired to wake up" I replied while Sumire pouted at that

"Aww.."

"Maybe another time, Sumire.. I'm sure, Natsumi would like to come and play with you once she's all better" I reassured as she gave a big smile on her face and nodded her head eagerly in understanding

By the time we'd arrived to the house, we were surprised to see Natsumi crying at the front of the house with Sumiyoshi trying his best to cheer her up

"Sumi!" I heard Sumire exclaimed and caught Natsumi's attention as she sobbed and shed tears from her eyes, while Sumire looked happy to see her awake

"Yah! Sumi is awake!" Sumire exclaimed as Natsumi wiped her tears away and looked towards Sumire who was urging her to come play with her

"It's okay, Natsumi.. Why not go and play with Sumire for a bit while I make us some Dinner?" I suggested and she nodded her head lightly but she did seemed sad about something

"Okay.."

"Is there anything you would like to eat, Natsumi?" I asked and she shook her head in response

"I'm good with anything you're having.."

"Are you sure? I can go out and hunt some rabbits for you to eat if you want?" Sumiyoshi offered but Natsumi refused the offer

"It's fine.." I heard as we saw her going off to play with Sumire, I smiled and went inside to prepare Dinner while Sumiyoshi decided to stay behind and watch over the children play.

Natsumi's pov

"Catch, Sumi!" I heard Sumire exclaimed as she tossed to me her ball, only to throw it too high for me to reach while it bounced away into the woods

"Oops.. Sorry, Sumi!" Sumire apologized as I shook my head lightly and pat her head, trying to control my inhumane strength against her frail and brittle body

"It's okay.. I'll go get it you can go back to your Father where it's safe"

"Huh? But what about you?"

"I'm a Demon, I can protect myself against other Demons so there's no need to be worried about me.." I stated as Sumire gave a small pout

"But what about those people like Mister Yoriichi? What if they come find you and kill you?" She asked as I felt my breath hitched at the mention of Oji-san's name

"I-I'll.. I'll see, what I can do.. Run along, now.. I'll be back as soon as possible.." I stated as Sumire gave a small smile towards me before running off towards her father while I headed off into the woods, all on my own.
