Several Years Later, In the Taisho Period..

"Are sure about this, Tsuki?"

"Yes, I'm sure.. It's about time I pay a visit to the Kamado family.."

"Fine.. Just one question, Would it be alright if Makamo and I went to visit our Sensei?"

"I'll think about it.. For now stay here and watch over the Fortress while I'm gone.."

"Yes, Tsuki.."

Meanwhile, At the Kamado Household, A Day Before New Year..

"Tanjiro?" A voice called as a Young Boy wearing a pair of Hanafuda Earrings, turned his head towards the person calling him

"Mom?" He called as she approached him with a concerned look on her face

"You're face is covered in soot, let me clean you up.." she offered, bending over towards him with a white cloth, to wipe off the soot on his face

"You know, you really don't have to go.. All this snow could be dangerous" She said warily as Tanjiro lightly shook his head in denial

"But, I want us to have a good New Year's Celebration where everyone can eat as much as they want.." Tanjiro replied as his mother smiled toward him

"Hm.. How thoughtful.." she commented before getting back up on her feet as she heard her younger children coming towards them to have a chat with their Elder Brother before he leaves..

"Be sure to get back home early, Tanjiro.. Hinokami will be coming to visit us" Tanjiro heard as his eyes beamed up with excitement along with his brothers and sisters, who were eager to see Hinokami on her yearly visit

"Then, I better get going.. Say hi to Hinokami for me, Mom!" Tanjiro eagerly exclaimed as he immediately starts heading down the mountain towards town to sell some charcoal for their New Year's Celebration.

Tanjiro felt extremely eager to return home when he's sold all of his charcoal yet he did feel quite embarrassed for his houseguest that he would be returning home late as usual

"Oh, well at least I sold out.. I probably should apologize to Hinokami when I get back.." Tanjiro mutter as he was about to hike back up the mountain, only to be stopped by one of his fellow neighbors who lived close by towards the village

An old man named Saburo, called Tanjiro over and offered him to stay for the night, warning him about the dangers that could happen to him in the middle of the night

Tanjiro would have refused his offer but the old man was quite persistent that he was actually forced to stay the night in Saburo's house to avoid getting eaten by Demons.

A Few Hours After Dawn, At the Kamado Family Household..

Natsumi's pov

I walked down the bright and snowy day as I made my way up towards the Kamado family household, to pay them a short visit

Feeling the freezing winter cold against my skin, it brings back fond memories when I use to come here every year to watch them perform the Hinokami Kagura..

It still amuses me that not a single one from the Kamado family has ever learned about the truth behind the Hinokami Kagura

They may have believed it as a Ceremonial Dance that wards off dangers and disaster, when in reality, it is breathing technique that originated from the Breath of Water and Breath of Flames..

'Ah.. I still remember it like it was still yesterday..' I thought as I got closer towards the Kamado family Household, only to catch the scent of blood in the air along with the rotten stench of a Demon

I felt my heart skipped a beat and felt my blood grew cold as I started running my way down towards the house, only to find myself standing at bloody massacre

"I'm too late.. I d-didn't make it in t-time.." I stuttered and felt tears trickled down my cheeks as my thoughts started to run wild with regret and despair

'I couldn't save them.. It's happening all over again.. I couldn't save Otou-san.. Then Oji-san.. And now, I couldn't save Tanjuro's family' I thought as I fell on my knees and cried in despair

'I'm sorry.. I'm sorry I couldn't protect them, Tanjuro..' I thought, only to feel a gentle hand stroking my hair as I heard Tanjuro's voice in the air

"You haven't lost yet, Hinokami.. You can still save Tanjiro and Nezuko.." I heard, glancing back towards Tanjuro's family, I finally realized that not all of them was lost

I quickly wiped my tears away before getting back on my feet, to follow a trail of footprints leading all the way down the mountain

'The scent of blood is getting stronger and yet.. Why does it seems like I'm just getting further and further away from them?' I thought as I saw the tracks stopped at the edge of a cliff, seeing that at least over a foot length of snow was swept away on the edge

It was clear to say that both of the Kamado siblings had fallen off from this height, they would be lucky enough to survive the fall if the snow were to break their impact

I gave a small huff as I jumped off the cliff and landed safely at the bottom, only to find Tanjiro trying to fend off Nezuko, who was completely exposed to demon blood..

"Tanji-" I frozed as a cold bead of sweat trickled down at the side of my head, feeling my muscles tense up completely at the the presence of a Demon Slayer nearby

'A Demon Slayer.. No, he'll kill Nezuko..' I thought before suddenly hearing heavy footsteps approaching closer towards our direction as I catch sight of a Demon Slayer with his sword at hand

I couldn't help but growl in slight anger as I quickly scooped up a handful of snow and threw it towards the Demon Slayer, to purposely blind him from his target

While he was in a slight disadvantage, I took my chance to quickly strike him down and knock him out before doing the same thing towards Nezuko

"H-huh? Hinokami!?"

"We need to go.. Let me carry, Nezuko" I offered, Tanjiro nodded his head and helped Nezuko onto my back as I immediately lead the way back towards his family house.

Tanjiro's pov.

'Huh?' I thought as I caught sight of my family house 'Did Hinokami lead me back to the house? Shouldn't we have gone to find help for Nezuko?' I wondered as I heard her sighed softly

"Stay here for the moment, Tanjiro.. I will be back to fetch you once Nezuko is stable.." She said, I looked at her with wide eyes and refused to stay here without Nezuko

Hinokami merely looked at me with a sad look on her face as she adjusted her hold on Nezuko and explained

"It is too dangerous for you to come with me, Tanjiro.. It would be best for you to wait for me, until it is safe for you to come along.."

"But-" I paused as I felt a gentle hand stroking my hair while hot tears trinkled down my cheeks

"Trust me on this, Tanjiro.. I can't afford losing anyone else from the Kamado family.. Not after everything you have done for me.. So please, listen to me for once and stay here" Hinokami muttered, I gave a small sniffle and nodded

"C-can I say goodbye to Nezuko at least?" I asked as she gave a small smile and nodded, bending down on one knee as I whispered a silent goodbye towards Nezuko and pet her head one last time before Hinokami left along with Nezuko.
