Chapter 14

Sarah's POV

I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT JUST HAPPENED.

That has to be the most awkward thing that has ever happened to me.

I said Alex from Target was my boyfriend.

I totally embarrassed myself in front of Henry.

Also, Henry likes me?

Why me?

Why not one of the other girls at school, the ones that obsess over him?

Better question, why now of all times?

Is it because he found out I'm 'Sparkly'?
I hope not, I wouldn't want him to like me just cause I work with him, and know his secret.

Ugh so many questions! Do I even like him?

Oh god, what is wrong with me?

"Hey sweetie, you're home late. Where were you?" My mom interrupts my racing thoughts. I turn around to see her walking into the foyer.
"Work." I answer. My mom gives me a funny look.
"Everything all right at work?"
"Yeah, why?" I reply.
"You seem uneasy." She tells me. I bite my lip.
"Thanks mom. I love being told I look terrible." I say awkwardly. "I'm just going to go to bed now." I add, turning and running upstairs. I slam my door.

I change into a pair of pj shorts and a T-shirt.

I pull my hair back into a ponytail.

I take my bracelet off, and set it on my dresser. It's a medic alert one. I've had it since I was little, my parents told me I had allergies, but there wasn't any information on the bracelet besides my name, and what looks like a barcode. I had learned awhile ago not to question it, my parents were extremely strict about the fact, I HAD, to wear it.

I stare at my opposite wrist, the one with my watch on it. I leave it on, just in case. I mean, you never know. I sit down on my bed.

I hear a knock on my door.
"Come in." I answer.
"Hey, honey." My dad pokes his head in my room.
"Hey dad." I reply.
"Mom said you were at work pretty late." He says. I frown at him curiously.
"Yeah, so?" I say. I wonder what he's getting at.
"Could you maybe come home a little earlier from now on? Lots of dangerous stuff out there, you know."
"It's not that big of a deal, dad. I can take care of myself." I roll my eyes.
"Well, the weather's pretty bad right now. Your mom and I would prefer if you came home earlier." He's desperately trying to stress his point.
"I'll try, okay?" I say, exasperated.
"I'm just looking out for you." He says. He sits down on the bed next to me, and hugs me close.
"I love you dad." I say.
"Love you too." He replies, pulling away. He stands up. "Good Night, Sar." He says, before leaving my room.

I shake my head, I wonder what all that was about. My parents have always been protective, but that was definitely more extreme than usual.

My phone rings. It's a call from Henry...
"Heyyy." I answer, trailing off awkwardly.
"Hey. Listen, I'm sorry about earlier."
"It's fine. Let's just pretend it never happened." I giggle nervously. "My parents are a little crazy protective, and I'm not single so yeah..." I trail off. At least only part of that was a lie.

"No, I get it." he answers. "But how crazy?" he asks. I can hear the smile in his voice.
"Like, my dad just came into my room and told me that I need to come home early from work from now on, because 'the weather's pretty bad right now'. That's a direct quote by the way." I say.
"Woah." Henry says.
"Yeah, I know." I roll my eyes, annoyed with my parents.

"Hey, are you doing anything tomorrow?" Henry asks me, all of a sudden.
"Actually, no. Would you like to come over to my place?" I ask. "Charlotte can come too." I add.
"Yeah, for sure." Henry says.
"Cool, I'll see you at school then." I say.
"Yep! Don't forget to tell Charlotte." he tells me.
"Right. Anyways, bye!" I say. I hear him disconnect.

I send a quick text to Charlotte;

S: wanna come over to my place with Henry tomorrow after school?

C: yeah, definitely! Cu then 😉

S: Kk Night ☺

C: Night 😊

I lock my phone, and put it on charge. I turn off the lights, and pull my blankets over my head. I yawn, before I rest my head on my pillow, and fall asleep.
