Maria and I were whisked into another larger room. A woman ushered us to our seat after she had done a little bow toward lady Carrie with her knees bent.
What with this people knees
"This is bell and she's new to this society"Lady Carrie explained
"Ahh the famous bell, I see the little bird is curious" the lady said to me
I raise an eyebrow
"Oh dear, I can see then in your eyes" she added
This is getting a bit awkward
"We would leave you to it" Lady Carrie said with a little nod and left the room with Maria trailing behind her
Ok so......
The woman circled me with strange interest "Am lady Esther, A teacher of etiquette" she began
eti........ what
She turned to faced me with a smile on her face "you are a beauty my dear, just try to follow along"
And so she began her lecture, the little knee bow from earlier is called curtsey, I spent a long time learning how to curtsey, then how to sip a tea
Seriously, can I just take the cup and drink my own way.
Then how to speak to people of certain calibre and status.
"To low, to fast, to slow, turn right, head higher......."
Urrg, This was no teaching, this is torture. Well it's no one's fault. I had been keen on fleeing and I had made no plan on what to do when I arrived.
Lady Carrie joined us after four hours, then Lady Esther freed me. The two spoke for quite sometime.
"The next time we meet, I would teach you how to dance lady bell"
Lady bell....umm
I nodded.
"She's a fast learner lady Carrie, just like you my Lady" she added. Lady Carrie smiled and glance at me, lady Esther curtsied and left the room.
"You did well my dear" lady Carrie commented.
I smiled
"Feel free to talk"
"I just to know about....."
"Oh that" she took her sit beside me. "There is no doubt that you don't belong to us"
I stared at her, I don't know whether to feel relieved
"You see my brother Macro loves to explore and he had been to Africa, well we went together dear. That's was a long time ago when I desperately wanted to see the wild plains of Africa" she paused
"You have her eyes my sweet
"Huh"
"Yinka, isn't that your mother's name"
My heart skip a beat, this is it..... finally I am at the end of the long trail
"He didn't accept me" I said, How could I forget he had rejected me bitterly
Lady Carrie chuckled "the bastard wouldn't" she timidly replied
"Umm..."
"Trust me, you don't want to know why"
Am ready for this, I want to know everything there's no need to beat around the bush
"The ball starts in two weeks time" she smoothly change the topic
