Chapter 3

Axle sighed a little as he woke up, still incredibly tired but he had to get up, he had plans that he definitely had to go through with, so he showered and got ready for the day, but his mind ended up wandering the vampire boy, he at least wanted the boy's name. He sighed to himself, getting dressed in decent looking clothes and heading out to get breakfast and coffee at his usual spot, running a hand through his hair. He heard a knock on his door

"C'mon, Demi" Axle said and she opened the door

"What's taking you so... Holy shit, you look exhausted" Demi said and Axle shrugged

"Yeah, didn't sleep well" He said "But it's fine, let's get going.. you have work today, right?" He asked and Demi nodded

"Yeah, I do, so we should get moving so I'm not late" Demi said, going out the house and Axle followed, both walking to the coffee shop. Axle was again, deep in thought and Demi nudged him

"Are you sure you're ok?" She asked and he nodded

"Just thinking" Axle said with a little smile before perking up "Hey.. do you believe in vampires?" He asked and she rose an eyebrow

"Vampires? Are you really ok?" She asked and Axle shook his head

"Nevermind" Axle chuckled a little "Just curious.. everyone seems to believe in the supernatural or paranormal or whatever, but not like vampires and stuff all the time.. but those are part of the supernatural" He said and she tapped her chin

"I see your point.. maybe there is some kind of vampire like thing out there.. which would actually be super cool" Demi said with a little giggle

"Yeah, it would be" Axle said and opened the door to the shop, Demi taking a deep breath

"It always smells fantastic here" She said and Axle nodded

"Can't argue there, grab a seat, I'll order" Axle said, heading into the short line.

This had been their morning routine for almost 5 years now, and it was always really nice. They had been pretty close, having been around each other since they were babies, and then Axle wound up getting adopted by his aunt after some events, so they had always kept contact with each other.

Axle ordered the food and drinks and then waited for the order, soon heading back to the table and setting Demi's order in front of her, sitting down and eating his own food and drinking his own coffee. He was genuinely still really tired, so the coffee was strong. He zoned out again, receiving a poke on the forehead before shaking his head

"You're acting strange, are you sure you're not too tired.. or that something didn't happen at that house?" Demi asked, Axle rubbing his eye

"I'm actually super tired, but I have plenty of time to sleep so no worries" He said and Demi nodded

"And really? Nothing happened at that house?" She said and Axle sighed

"Sure, yeah, nothing happened" he said, causing her to roll her eyes

"You're such a liar, you know that?" She said "You've got bruises" she pointed to his wrists and there was one on his jaw "So what happened?"

He truthfully had no idea the bruises were there until that moment

"Fine.. I got attacked by something" Axle said

"You did?" Demi perked up, shaking her head "So it really is haunted?" She asked, getting this gleam in her eyes

"Yeah.. but maybe we should just leave it alone" Axle said before she shook her head

"No way.. now I gotta check it out! C'mon, you got to go" Demi said, causing Axle to sigh softly, knowing he couldn't talk her out of this at that point, he screwed up

".. Fine" he said, shaking his head gently. He should have made something up but he couldn't think of anything

"Let's do it tonight" She said excitedly

"Are you sure?" He asked and she pouted

"Gonna try and talk me out of it? Really?" Demi asked, sounding upset

"No.. fine" Axle gave in, now worried

He had definitely tried to at least talk to the boy, but this was different. He would have to protect his cousin from actually being hurt, knowing that was a grand possibility from his own interactions

He sighed and finished eating before noticing that Demi was done as well

"You should get to work, I'm going to get some more sleep and when you're ready just come over" Axle said with a yawn and Demi nodded

"Sounds like a plan, see you later!" She said and waved as they went their separate ways. Axle went back to his house and decided to go back to bed since the coffee didn't seem to be working. He yawned and went to sleep right away, sleeping until he heard a knock on his door

"Come in" He called out softly, yawning as he sat up 

"Are you still in bed?!" Demi called out

"Yeah, I've been sleeping" Axle chuckled and got up, tussling his hair and then throwing on some different clothes

"Gosh.. are you ready yet?" She asked and Axle came out the room

"Yeah, yeah, let's go" Axle rubbed his eye and started out the house, leading Demi to the victorian style house
