(Thursday)

"So have you and Jay decided where you're going for your date?" Ben asked as they were walking to school.

"No." Mal shook her head. "We've been talking about it, but haven't decided."

"Oh." Ben slightly nodded.

Mal looked down. Not looking happy. Then Ben noticed and was immediately concerned.

"Mal? You okay?" Ben checked.

"I'm just nervous. This is my first date. What if I say something wrong?" Mal answered.

"I doubt if you say something wrong he'll be mad. He's had a crush on you for so long." Ben explained.

"Yeah, but still." Mal said.

"You'll be fine. And if you think it's going well you can always text me and I'll come up with a reason for you to leave." Ben offered.

"Thanks Ben." Mal smiled at him and he returned the smile.

(At school)

"Morning Mal." Jay greeted her, then he glanced over at Ben. "Ben."

"Hey Jay." Ben pretended to sound nice. "How has your day been going so far?" Then he smirked.

"Okay Ben, I can handle this. Why don't you head off." Mal told him.

"Okay bye." Ben replied, then walked away.

"So... I was thinking about what we can do tomorrow." Jay started saying.

"Yeah?" Mal questioned.

"I was thinking maybe we could go to the movies?" Jay suggested.

"Yeah I'm down for that. That sounds good." Mal responded.

"Cool. We should probably get going." Jay said.

(At lunch)

"The movies?" Evie checked.

"Yeah. What's wrong with that?" Mal replied asking.

"N-nothing. It's just cliche. You know, going there for a first date. Not original." Evie was saying.

"Hey." Ben said sitting beside Mal. "How it go with pretty boy this morning?" Ben teased.

"Fine. We decided where we're gonna go for our first date." Mal answered.

"Oh yeah? And where's that?" Ben wondered.

"Get a load of this." Evie said trying to hold in her laughter.

Mal rolled her eyes at Evie, then looked over at Ben. "We're going to the movies."

"Oh. That's cool." Ben told her.

"Thank you, Ben." Mal said, then glared at Evie.

Evie put her hand over her mouth and started laughing.

(Friday)

"Hey you ready for tonight?" Ben asked as Mal walked out of her house.

"Yeah. Still a little nervous." Mal confessed.

"You'll be okay." Ben assured her.

(Later that night)

Mal was fixing her hair and putting makeup on. She looked out her window and saw Ben looked over. She waved at him and he waved back.

A few minutes later Mal and her mom pulled up to the movie theater.

"Okay have fun." Her mom told her before she got out.

"Thanks. Bye Mom." Mal responded, then got out.

She walked in and saw Jay sitting on a bench waiting for her.

"Hey you look amazing." Jay complimented.

"Thanks so do you." Mal told him.

(During the movie)

Mal was watching the movie, then she glanced over at Jay. When she looked over at him she saw Ben face.

Jay smiled at her and she smiled back pretending it was Ben. Then Jay wrapped his arm around her and Mal started to blush since she was seeing Ben. And then she rested her head on his shoulder.

(After the movie)

"Well that was really good movie." Jay mentioned as they walked out.

"Yeah." Mal agreed. She was back to seeing just Jay.

"Was there anything else you wanted to do?" Jay wondered.

"No. How about you?" Mal replied and asked.

"Nothing I can think of off the top of my head." Jay said.

"Okay. Well then maybe I should call my mom to come pick me up."  Mal told him.

"Okay. So..." Jay started saying.

"What's up Jay?" Mal questioned giving him a look.

"Are we like dating now? And are we gonna go on a second date?" Jay was asking.

"Actually about that Jay..." Mal was trying to tell him.

"Yeah?" Jay looked at Mal confused.

"I think you're a really good guy, but I don't think we should date." Mal was telling him.

"Why not?" Jay wondered.

"There's... There's someone else I like." Mal stated.

"Is it Ben?" Jay checked.

"H-how'd you know?" Mal was stuttering.

"It's pretty obvious." Jay answered.

"Oh. Well can you please not tell him? I'm not ready for him to know." Mal questioned.

"I promise I won't." Jay assured her.

"Thanks Jay." Mal smiled at him.

"But there's something I need to ask." Jay said.

"What's up?" Mal replied.

"Can we still be friends?" Jay asked.

"Of course." Mal agreed.

"Cool. And who knows maybe in the future we'll be better friends than before." Jay told her.

"Yeah." Mal nodded. "My mom should be here soon. So I'm gonna go wait."

Mal walked out of the building and waited outside for her mom.
