Best Friends (Prequel)

Sophomore Year

(A few months later)

"So as our last day of summer break what does everyone want to do today?" Mal asked as they were all sitting in her living room.

"I don't know." Evie responded.

"What if we went to the lake?" Ben suggested. 

"You mean the one we always went to when we were younger?" Mal wondered.

"That's the one." Ben smiled.

"I like that idea." Derek spoke.

"Me too." Evie agreed giving a smile.

"Then that's what we'll do." Mal said with a nod. 

(An hour later)

Ben was walking out of his house over to Mal's when he saw Jay walking up to her door. 

"Hey Jay!" Ben called and ran over to him. "What are you doing here?" 

"Oh h-hey Ben." Jay looked at him nervously. "I... I wasn't doing anything..." 

"No dude don't worry. I was just gonna ask you if you wanted to come with us to the lake?" Ben offered.

"Wow um... Yeah I'd love to." Jay answered. 

"Cool. Well we're all heading there now so if you need to go get your bathing suit." Ben told him.

"Yeah, yeah I will." Jay was nodding, then headed back home.

After that Ben walked up to Mal's house and rang the doorbell. 

"Hey." Mal greeted him when she opened the door. 

"Hey you ready to go?" Ben asked.

"Yep." Mal nodded and walked out shutting the door behind her.

"Oh and also Jay is joining us." Ben mentioned.

"You invited Jay?" Mal questioned.

"Well he was here for some reason about to walk up to your door, so I asked if he wanted to join us." Ben explained.

"Weird I wonder what he was coming here for." Mal said. 

"I mean remember New Year's? When he kissed you." Ben reminded her.

"Right, but that was a few months ago. And what else would he have to say?" Mal wondered.

"I don't know." Ben shrugged. "Maybe you can find out when we see him." 

"Yeah." Mal nodded. 

(At the lake)

"Look Evie and Derek are here." Ben pointed out as him and Mal reached the lake. 

"I thought it was just supposed to be the four of us?" Evie asked.

"Yeah well I invited Jay too." Ben told them. 

"And Carlos?" Derek questioned. 

"Huh?" Ben gave a confused look, then him and Mal looked behind them.

Jay and Carlos were walking towards them with their towels and in their bathing suits.

"Ben I thought you said you only invited Jay?" Mal checked.

"I did." Ben answered. "I mean it's not that big of a deal. It's the last day of summer. Let's just have a little fun." 

"Okay I guess." Mal agreed.

Then Mal and Ben put their stuff down and headed into the lake. 

"Jay are you actually sure this is a good idea?" Carlos asked as him and Jay were walking over to the others.
