Chapter 1: Hi...

Katniss's POV

I'm laying down on my bed procrastinating when I hear the doorbell ring. I groan and roll out of bed. I sit there for a moment, annoyed. 

 "Katniss! Hurry!" my sister, Prim calls giddily. I walk down the stairs to see Prim jumping up and down in front of the door. I open the door and little Rue runs in to meet Prim. They do a little handshake and run upstairs. I look up expecting Rue's mom, but instead my eyes meet Thresh's. He stands there awkwardly for a moment and I decide to speak first

"Hi..." I say
"Hey" he responds. "So I'll pick up Rue tomorrow at..." his voice drifts off.
"2?" I ask. He nods. This is so awkward.
"Well I gotta get home.. bye Katniss."
"Bye" He goes down the steps and I close the door. I return to my room and find that Gale, my boyfriend/best friend A/N Everlark shippers, don't worry! This won't be long!  has texted me. 

Can I come over? Posy's trying to put eye shadow on my arm. I laugh and text back
Sure I lie down on my bed and wait.                    

Within minutes, I hear the doorbell again. I open the door once I get downstairs and see that Gale's wearing his black nike shoes, jeans, and his gray jacket. He takes it off when he comes inside revealing that he's wearing his red shirt. He follows me upstairs to my room and I realize that my calculus worksheet is due tomorrow.

"I have some homework to slug through."
 "Okay" he says as he sits down on my bed. I take out my worksheet and read the first problem. This is person A's distance over time  It reads next to the chart. This is person B's distance over time it says right below it. Who's going faster at 14 mins and 7 secs I groaned and start to solve the problem. Just after I finish the first problem Gale asks  

"Does Prim have a friend over?" I nod and say
 "Rue." Gale thinks for a bit and asks
"Is that Thresh's sister?"
 "Yeah."

                                                                                                                                                                                                        Thresh's POV

I drive home thinking about my old friendships. I used to be best friends with Katniss, Gale, Peeta, Madge, Johanna, Finnick, Annie, Cato, Clove, Marvel and Glimmer. But freshman year shit happened and now boom, we barely say hi to each other. Only Katniss and Gale remained good friends, I heard they're together now. Anyway, all of us are mostly in different cliques. Katniss and Gale were their own clique, Peeta and Annie were both in the book club clique, but were still pretty distant. Madge doesn't really have friends, she sits alone, and all the popular people call her a loser. Johanna pretty much just hangs out with whoever wants to hang out with her, Clove sits with her basketball friends. Glimmer is in Delly Cartwright's (Who isn't mean, just not aware and not necessarily nice) crew, aka, one of the popular groups. From what I see Clove and Glimmer are pretty cold and Finnick hangs with mostly the guys in Delly's group. Marvel and I both sit with the football team since we're both on it. Finnick's on it too, he just doesn't sit with us. Cato hangs with Gloss and Cashmere's group, we were all surprised when Cato joined Gloss and Cashmere's group and started dating Cashmere, since we all disliked them. I'm not to sure why I left, one day it was just Katniss, Gale, and me but I started sitting with my football guys, and we just drifted 

I get home safely and set a reminder to pick up Rue tomorrow, and start working on an essay I owe Mrs. Mags. 

Rue's POV

"Can you do polka-dots on mine?" Prim asks while doing my nails. She's drawing small pink hearts using a blunt toothpick on top of a light blue coat. 
"Sure! What colors?"  Prim thinks for a while
"A pastel yellow coat, with pastel purple, blue, and pink polka dots" she says

"Oooohh" I say as I'm admiring the job Prim has done. 
"My turn!" She squeals. I pick up a pastel yellow color named A Sun's Rays I begin painting an I allow my mind to wander

"Hiya!" a girl with blonde braids, and blue eyes says. "My name is Primrose, but call me Prim!" I hide behind  my big brother Thresh. I look up and he nods
"Hi" I say shyly. I look up behind her, a girl about Thresh's age with dark hair and gray eyes is talking with Thresh. 
"Have you finished your packet yet?" she asks him
"No, its just so long!" my brother complains.
"This is my boring sister Katniss, the only thing she does is complain about school." Prim grunts.
"Oh, Katniss! This is my little sister Rue, I was hoping she and Prim could play while we hang out." Thresh says
"Sure" Katniss says. She gestures us to come inside and I take off my shoes. Prim leads me to her room and we play dolls for a while. The same day we declared we were best friends. 
Prim has to yell my name 4 times before I hear her. 
"Rue, you painted on my skin!" she says. I look down and sure enough, I've been painting past her nail. 
"Sorry! I'll get the nail polish remover" I cross the living room to pick up the remover and I realize Thresh hasn't mentioned or hung out with Katniss or any of his old friends in a while. 
"Hey Prim?" I ask
"Yaaa?" She says, taking the remover from me and putting it on a cotton ball.
"Have you noticed that Thresh and Katniss don't play anymore?" Prim thinks about it for a minute and responds
"Not really, but now that I think about it, yeah!"
"I wonder why" I say, Prim doesn't respond but nods. I finish her nails and Prim's mom tells us to go to bed.
