Remus was sat across from Sirius and Peter and next to James at the Three Broomsticks as they drank butterbeer and James gushed about his latest prank.
"It was amazing, Pads, you don't even understand. He was-"
James continued talking and he thought Sirius was still listening to him but he discreetly directed his attention towards Remus when he heard him mutter, "Shit," and duck futilely behind his book and mug.
"What's wrong," Sirius whispered, ceasing James' relentless story time rant. James frowned when he noticed Remus' strange behavior.
"Loony Lizzie," he whispered hastily and Sirius blood boiled. No one knew, of course, but he loved Remus. Totally not platonic. Lizzie the loser was this lunatic that chased after Remus, making 'coincidental' appearances everywhere he went. If he didn't love him so goddamn much, Sirius would most definitely find this highly amusing.
"Bugger," Sirius whispered as she frolicked over to them, beaming ridiculously at Remus.
"Oh, hi Remus! Fancy seeing you here," she giggled. Girls. Bleh. Sirius wanted nothing more than to wring her head and stick it on the wall at Grimmauld place where all the other house elf heads belonged.
"Lizzie," he smiled stiffly. She practically sat on James as she squished her way in between him and Remus.
"Mph, bloody 'ell-"
"How's everything?" He asked wryly. She clearly didn't see how much Remus was not wanting to talk to her.
"Oh, you know," she said and bit her lip, inching closer to him and leaning on him. Remus had shuffled so far along the bench he was only half sitting on it now. "It'd be better if you were there," she said with puppy eyes.
Sirius glared daggers at the side of her face. He cleared his throat. He had a plan and it was going to work. He wouldn't let it not. The aim was to save his friend, but it did have a personal benefit . . . maybe. "'Scuse me?"
"What?" Lizzie glowered, livid at being interrupted. "Is there a problem?"
"Yes, actually," Sirius said matter-of-factly.
"And how can I help with that?" She said sardonically. She was definitely joining those house elves sooner or later.
"Stop flirting with my boyfriend," he deadpanned and grabbed Remus' hand over the table, folding his thumb over it and lacing their fingers together.
Lizzie blinked. "Your boyfriend?" She said, sounding disgusted. "He's not your boyfriend."
"I beg to differ," he said dryly.
James and Peter were watching between them like watching the ball in a tennis match. "He really took one for the team," James whispered impossibly quietly to Peter who nodded fervently, not even blinking in fear of missing a millisecond of the scene playing out before them.
"Prove it," she said.
"Make me," Sirius narrowed his eyes.
Lizzie looked uneasily at Remus and then coldly at Sirius as she detangled herself from him and sat next to him instead of almost on top of him. "Kiss."
Sirius stiffened for only a second before shrugged. He leaned across the table and locked lips with Remus nonchalantly as if it was the easiest task ever, a daily thing, a bare necessity. Sirius could only dream that, though.
When Sirius pulled back and sat down, Remus was staring at him. Without breaking eye contact, he slid out the booth, walked over to Sirius' bench end, pulled him standing with the hand he was holding and kissed him again.
Sirius was a hopeless romantic. Secretly. He felt the fireworks exploding around them.
Lizzie stared disbelievingly before leaving without another word.
Like Sirius knew it would, his plan worked.
