I Will Not Give Up
Part 8

Yoongi didn't go back to his workroom that day. Jungkook and I had no idea why he was so pissed off. We were always loud, but we never crossed the line. Yoongi wouldn't have let us cross the line in the first place.

I left home with a heavy heart, thinking I should go talk to Yoongi. I kicked the small rocks on the road along the way. I still had the lighter that Yoongi left behind in the workroom. I tried clicking it. In the flame, I couldn't help but remember Yoongi's face that I'd seen in my dreams. His face had been pained, waiting for death.

Yoongi's workroom was in the area that was ready for demolition. A few people left while the majority were forced out. I turned the corner and caught Yoongi leaving the workroom.

"Yoongi Hyung!" I called.

He didn't hear me and disappeared around the street corner.

"Yoongi!" I called again, running after him.

I turned the corner, but he was already gone.
Where on earth did he go?  I looked around me. Surprisingly and unexpectedly, I spotted Seokjin in his car a few feet away.

Everything came to a grinding halt. Everything went quiet. The only sound I could hear was the beating of my own heart.
Seokjin was here. And his face...his face was the exact face I'd seen in my dream. And then I remembered the map on Seokjin's wall. The right side of the SongJu Police Station he'd marked. This was the place he'd marked down.

I made my way to Seokjin's car. He was on the phone with someone. as I stood in front of the window, I caught on to some of the conversation.

"Detective, I'm Kim Seokjin. Yes, we met last time," Seokjin said.

The detective spoke on the other end.

"Yes, Kim Taehyung. I think you know him. If he gets into trouble again, please contact Jung Hoseok. His contact number is-"

I opened the car door.
"What are you saying?!"

Seokjin looked up at me, surprised. He mumbled something and looked down at his watch, then up at me again. in bewilderment, I let go of the car door and stepped back. Seokjin had no expression on his face. He looked empty. A cold chill swept over me then. My teeth chattered lightly despite the spring weather, not a breeze in sight. It was freezing.

"What do you mean?" Seokjin asked, getting out of the car.

"You were talking about me on the phone just now," I replied. "And why are you here?"

"Come with me," Seokjin said, starting to walk.

I followed him into the dark alley. There was little to no sunlight here. Seokjin stopped once we were fairly far into the alley and turned to me again, his face cloaked in the shadow of the overhead building.

"Please just tell me what's going on. You marked this place on your map, didn't you?" I said. "Why? Why are you here?"

Seokjin frowned and didn't say anything. He looked down at his watch again.

"Do you see the same things as me when you dream? Jungkook and Namjoon failing-"

"You know nothing, Taehyung," Seokjin cut me off.

The sound of feet on pavement filled the alley then. Seokjin looked in the direction it was coming from and left.

"Where are you going?" I shouted.

Then it hit me. I saw the smoke. Just like my dream: Yoongi in the motel room, surrounded by smoke, his room on fire. He was going to die.

I started running after Seokjin. This was the same place as my dream. It had to be. It looked exactly the same. The smoke started to get thicker. Yoongi had to be inside.

When I finally came out the alley, I saw Jungkook. He was headed in the same direction. He must be looking for Yoongi too.

"Jeon Jungkook!" I called out.

I stumbled over something in my distraction and twisted my ankle. It had to be sprained now. I hit the pavement and scraped my elbows. I couldn't run now. I tried to stand up, but my ankle gave out.

The smoke grew thicker by the second. I could catch a glimpse of the flames inside. I clenched my jaw hard and stood up. Before I could get any closer, someone grabbed my arm. It was Seokjin. He dragged me over to his car and pushed me into the passenger seat.

"What are you doing?" I shouted. "Yoongi Hyung is still in there!"

I tried to push Seokjin away, but he didn't move.

"Taehyung, wait," he said firmly. "The ambulance will be here soon."

"Jungkook!" I screamed over Seokjin's shoulder. "Jeon Jungkook!"

Jungkook didn't hear me. He turned around after some time and came back to pick up a scrap piece of paper by the front of the motel door.

"Jungkook!" I shouted again. He finally noticed me and met my eyes. "Yoongi is still in there!"

Mere seconds later, Jungkook ran back into the motel. Only then did I realize Seokjin was still next to me. And he was holding my arm tight enough for it to hurt. I pulled myself out of his grip and this time he didn't try to stop me. He let me go without a fight.
I heard the ambulance come. The siren was loud.

Jungkook stumbled out of the motel with Yoongi on his back. He was unconscious.
