3rd person
Avery groaned at the newly forming headache while he returned back to the land of the living.
As soon as his eyes opened, he hissed at the harsh white light that temporarily blinded him and he shut his eyes tightly again. Fluttering his eyes open, Avery let his eyes get used to the bright light until he could fully open his eyes. The steady beep of the heart monitor caught his attention and he huffed in annoyance at the familiar sound.
It was sad and miserable to admit but Avery was used to waking up in hospital rooms and the sound of a heart monitor being the first thing he heard if not because of himself then because of the times his brothers ended up in the hospital and the new addition, Adrian.
Speaking of Adrian, when Avery turned to look to the right side of his hospital bed, he caught sight of the thirteen year old sitting in one of the uncomfortable hospital chairs fast asleep with her head resting against the edge of Avery's bed. She was no longer wearing her baby blue Nike sweater but a black over-sized hoodie given to her by Phoenix. One of her small hands was clutching Avery's bigger hand in a deathly tight grip almost as if she was to let go, Avery would completely disappear.
Avery caressed his thumb over her slightly brusied knuckles and he frowned slightly, wondering what happened to her hand.
The soft sound of a keyboard clicking from somewhere else in the room had Avery looking up to where the noise was coming from. His eyes landed on Phoenix who was also sitting in one of the uncomfortable hospital chairs with his laptop on his lap, typing away.
Almost as if sensing Avery's eyes on him, Phoenix looked up and the laptop was then the least of worries.
Phoenix rushed to Avery's side and grabbed both of his cheeks in his hands and made Avery look him the eyes, "How you feeling?" Phoenix's eyes were pooling with worry and concern and his lips were pulled in a deep frown.
He was still dealing with the after-effects of the morphine in his drip. He felt lethargic, and tired and numb. He felt glued to the hospital bed, like he physically couldn't move.
"Fine." Avery raspy voice spoke out. His speech was slightly slurred and his throat felt like there was sandpaper rubbing against it from the inside.
Phoenix snapped out of whatever trance it was and grabbed a straw and the glass of water. "Here." Phoenix lifted the glass with the straw inside of it to Avery's lips and let him take a much-needed gulp of water.
"Thanks." Avery mumbled afterwards, "You know, I thought my first time getting shot would be more glorious than it was."
"Avery." Phoenix huffed in annoyance and took a step back from his seventeen year old brother.
