May 1921

The whole family sat impatiently, waiting for some news on Mary and the baby. After what seemed like ages, the phone finally rang.

Lord Grantham sprung up faster than any of them, and raced to answer it.

"Hello!? Yes hello Anna. How is Mary? And the baby?" He spoke quickly.

After about a minute, Lord Grantham walked back in triumphantly.

"Well?" Cora asked.

"It's a boy." He said, with a huge smile plastered on his face.

"And Mary?" She questioned.

"Anna said she's perfectly fine. Tired and sore, but fine." He said joyfully.

Cora breathed a sigh of relief. This birth was the most stress she had gone through since Sybil's death. She had been in labour throughout the night, but the baby was here, and all was well.

Just then, the nanny walked in with Sybbie on her hip, all dressed in pink. Tom chuckled and exclaimed,

"Sybbie, you mustn't wear pink today! Your cousin would much more prefer blue!"

The nanny smiled.

"So it's a boy?" She asked.

" A healthy baby boy. 5lbs 3oz and 18 inches long!" Robert smiled.

"He's ought to have a name?" Edith piped in.

"Yes. Sir George Matthew Crawley. The Heir to Downton."
