Legolas returned from Mirkwood's forest, battered, bloody and beaten. He strove through the gates of his kingdom, holding his bruised side. He wasn't injured all that badly- a good night's sleep would be cure enough. He did not greet his father that noon, and instead tended to himself.

He changed into robes, similar to those that his father fashioned. He then lay himself down, groaning in exhaustion. He couldn't remember a day he had exerted himself so. Every inch of him was aching, and he didn't know what to do to make it stop. He rarely ever felt pain, so such discomfort was agony. His eyelids closed, and he grasped onto fatigue, begging it to consume him.

Unfortunately, the universe had other ideas. There was a knock at the door. He didn't even reply, when a servant poked her head into his chambers. "Your majesty," she said in elvish, her accent tinged with a honeyed quality. "The children are waiting in the Great hall." Legolas sprang up, his tired eyes widening.

"What children!?"

"Why, the children from the town. You had agreed to meet with them, as per the request from their teacher."

"...did I?"

"Yes. They are waiting for you."

"But I--"

He didn't get to finish, as the servant had bowed her head and slammed the door shut. Legolas whimpered to himself, burying his face into a pillow. He had no recollection of agreeing to...well, anything! The only thing he could remember over the last couple of days was his father, Thranduil, yammering on about how he wasn't being 'responsible' enough in taking princely duties. To be fair, he did spend a little too much time defending his people rather than getting to know them. Perhaps seeing these children would be...good?

And so the prince of Mirkwood took to his feet. He marched from his chambers, and to the Great Hall, where a Lady sat before an array of children. They were small and sweet- they quite frankly intimidated Legolas. He smiled, as several of them swooped their heads to stare at him. Their eyes glistened in delight, and they cried for him to come forward. When the teacher finally looked back, Legolas wore an awkward smile.

"Your majesty!" she cried, jumping to her feet. "Thank you for agreeing to meet us!"

"My pleasure, really, my friend."
