Breaking the Rocks

"Ano itong nabalitaan kong ikinasal ka na?" From my computer screen, I lifted my head to look at the newcomer. Rachel, one of the engineers that I am close with, entered my office.

I closed my laptop and smiled at her. "Good morning to you too, Rachel."

She laughed. "Hoy, sagutin mo ang tanong ko. Ikinasal ka na? Really?"

"Well, that's the reason why I took a one week leave." I shrugged.

"Goodness! Nag-leave din naman ako pero bumalik pa rin naman akong single. Tell me, sino ang maswerteng lalaki?"

I huffed. "Maswerte my ass."

"Oh, hindi ba planned ang wedding mo?"

"Hindi," I simply said. Ngumisi si Rachel sa akin na para bang may malalim na dahilan iyon. I rolled my eyes at her.

"How is your project going?" I opened up a topic as she sat on the visitor's chair. Ayaw ko lang na magtagal ang usapan tungol sa kasal ko. Clearly, it's not that interesting.

"Just a few touches and we're done for next week."

Tumango ako. I eyed the list of the ongoing projects of the company. As for this month, we only have the construction of two commercial buildings. Sisimulan na iyon ng team sa susunod na linggo at in-a-align ko na rin ang budget.

"Saan pala kayo nag-honeymoon?" pahabol na tanong ni Rachel. I glared at her.

"Sige na, parang hindi tayo magkaibigan ah!"

"Marina. It's his hometown." I sighed. Inaalala ko na naman tuloy ang nangyari sa isang linggo naming pananatili roon.

After coming back to Manila, Exodus didn't contact me. Basta sinabi niyang magpapakita siya sa akin anumang araw at hindi pa namin pinag-uusapan ang magiging set-up namin. Seriously, he planned the wedding and the honeymoon but he didn't plan our next set-up.

Mas mabuti nang hindi kami nagkita. As for me, I don't want to deal with it right now because I will be busy. Wala akong panahong makipagtalo sa kaniya sa kung anuman ang pinaplano niya. His plan can be dealt with later on. Problema niya kasi iyon at dinamay niya pa ako.

Later that day, I went to visit the site of the project. Tiningnan ko kung maayos ba ang mga raw materials na ini-deliver ng supplier at iilang kagamitan. I met with the field engineer who's also there for the site inspection.

"Congratulations on your wedding, Engineer Versales!" iyon ang ibinungad sa akin ng iilan. Napangiwi ako.

I never knew that almost everyone knew about my wedding. Hindi ko rin alam kung sino ang nagpakalat. Kung si Rye man, malamang ay nasabi niya lang sa project manager namin at kumalat na agad. I don't think that Rye would spearhead the spread of that information. Mas marami siyang bagay na dapat atupagin kaysa ang magsimula ng chismis.

"Thank you." I just smiled. Nagpatuloy ako sa paglalakad kasama ng site engineer. May iilang bagay kaming napag-usapan tungkol sa construction ng building.

I went home to my condo after that. Bumili ako ng take out food kasi tinamad na akong magluto. Plopped in my couch while the television was running, I ate my dinner languidly.

Nasa kalagitnaan ako ng pagkain nang may kumatok sa aking pinto. My forehead knotted in confusion before I decided to just check the door.

"Good evening, Honey, " Exodus greeted with enthusiasm. He was in his blue button down shirt. Ang suot na itim na coat ay nasa kaniyang braso at nakasabit.
