Making the Old Goat Sweat

I was quickly dodging knives and spells alike. The goal was to dodge for twenty minutes unscathed. You may use what is around you and shielding spells. Today was my birthday and while the Dursleys went on their biyearly vacation I was training in weaponry. My choice of weapon is a kunai and shuriken. Both were small and looked like accessories on my person, able to look like jewelry when going through metal detectors. Over the years the items that I have procured in my nightly activities have come in handy. The local orphanage has been fully renovated and the local baddies pay commission to insure I come nowhere near their items. I was propositioned by the mob for special jobs that required someone young with the ability to be unseen. One job required me to sneak into a highly guarded office building and destroy some paperwork and in return I now have a scholarship with a full ride to any college I wish to go to. I do not touch my Potter Vault in Gringotts unless it is absolutely necessary. Once the twenty minutes were up and I succeeded I went and changed.
"Miss Rosetta, Mr. Sherwood has asked for you to meet himself and a guest in his study. He asks that you dress appropriately for Hogwarts attire." A maid said after knocking
"Of course, Madeline. Tell Mr. Sherwood I shall be with him shortly." I said
Madeline left and I dressed for the occasion.

Once dressed I left for the study. When I walked in Mr. Sherwood sat in his chair facing whom I assuming is Dumbledore and Severus Snape. Dumbledore's eyes twinkled and Snape was expressionless.
"You wish to see me, sir?" I asked
"Yes, Rosetta. These gentlemen have come to speak with you about possibly going to their school of magic." Mr. Sherwood said with amusement in his eyes
"I am sorry for the confusion gentlemen but I plan to be going to magic school in America this fall. I was in the process of sending my acceptance letter." I said indifferently
Snape quirked an eyebrow and Dumbledore's eyes sparkled harder.
"Miss Potter you have been down in our books since your parents enrolled you when you were born. Hogwarts was your parents Alma Mater. The Potters have been going to Hogwarts for centuries." Dumbledore stated
"I am sorry, sirs, but I did not catch your names." I said
"How rude of us. My name is Albus Dumbledore and I am the Headmaster of Hogwarts. This is my Potions master and teacher Severus Snape." He introduced himself
I nodded.
"Well perhaps we should go to the beginning and we shall conduct this like we did with the other schools who came to visit, Mr. Sherwood." I said towards my teacher
"Of course. Mr. Dumbledore what classes does your school participate in? Sports?" Mr. Sherwood asked
"We have transfiguration, charms, potions, herbology, and defense against the dark arts as our core classes. The upper years can choose between arithmancy, runes, care of magical creatures, and divination." Dumbledore said proudly
My mask must have slipped slightly. Over the years I have been taught by people from all over the world and this conversation had started as a way to make Dumbledore think that I wouldn't be going to Hogwarts. Now I was actually considering it.
"That's it?! What about muggle courses? What about technology courses or even language courses? What about alchemy?" I asked horrified
Dumbledore seemed startled but Snape seemed to bite back a smile.
"No but you are free to self study and take apprenticeships after your schooling." Dumbledore said
Snape was looking at me hard but I felt like someone hit me in the stomach. All this hard work, all the training and practice, and all this WORK to better myself would go to waste at Hogwarts. It would be a complete waste of my time. I have been studying obscure arts for over a year. I've studied alchemy, arithmancy, and runes for two years. The way Dumbledore was speaking, wizarding Britain was so far behind the times that they were a joke to the rest of the world. When I went to Diagon Alley I thought the wizards were merely traditional but they are actually that far behind in the times. They actually run the community as if it is still the 1800s. I became so far lost in my thoughts that Mr. Sherwood had gotten up and led me to my seat. Eventually I turned to Mr. Sherwood.
"I'm not going. I refuse. They truly have nothing for me." I whispered to him
"What do you have for sports?" He asked and I looked at them
Dumbledore seemed shocked that I wasn't excited to be going to Hogwarts. Snape seemed to find the whole situation funny.
"We have Quidditch and Gobstones." Snape said
"What about soccer, debate teams, defense clubs, or horseback riding?" He asked incredulously
Mr. Sherwood had expected the decline in teaching standards at Hogwarts but not the entire lack of standards of the entire curriculum. If Rosetta were to go there she would be completely isolated from what she had become used to.
Dumbledore looked in complete disbelief that he may actually lose Rosetta to another school and Snape seemed indifferent to that fact.
"I assure you that Miss Potter will indeed enjoy schooling in her parents Alma Mater. We have one of the best libraries in the country with material going back hundreds of years." Dumbledore tried to placate me and I had enough of him for one day but decided I wanted to see where my parents went to school
"Mr. Dumbledore how about this. You see Salem Academy not only has entire buildings dedicated to books from all over the world, but they give private dorms to each student so they can study uninterrupted. I would have access to coming home every weekend to spend time with family and friends as well as family business. I am an accomplished musician, artist, and singer you see. I would also have a wide variety of sports and courses at my finger tips. Now I would love to visit where my family has gone to school as is tradition, but if I come to Hogwarts you can see I would be sacrificing a great deal." I said acting deeply saddened
Dumbledore went completely pale and turned to Severus Snape who merely glanced back. We sat for an hour going back and forth. I ended up with a private dorm and able to leave every other weekend. Snape's face pinked slightly at how Dumbledore seemed in complete disbelief as they left.
"Well done Rosetta but I suggest working on your mask in those kind of situations. You may come across more in the future." Mr. Sherwood said
"Thank you, sir. Yes, sir." I said
"I shall send Samantha with you and Anastasia to pick up your things for Hogwarts in Diagon Alley. Anything you wish to have ordered can be completed later on today. I shall be giving you the next couple of days off to ready yourself for the trip to Diagon." Mr. Sherwood said as a dismissal
I left to find Ana so we could come up with a gameplan and go over our letters. Anastasia had wrote out a schedule for the entire day. She had turned school shopping into a girls day out. Anastasia had taken to calling us sisters because I am always at their place learning and practicing. I even have my own room. Mr. Sherwood also has me labelled as his daughter on multiple forms of paperwork. The Dursleys are merely my legal guardian on Dumbledore's paperwork. I had a birthday ball to prepare for that night. All of my investment companies would be sending representatives with gifts. The British MOB sent over a couple guys in suits that sat through the speeches every year.

With two jeweled studs going down the braid. Everyone walked around out behind the house. There were fairy lights with tables and chairs decorated with black and gold designs. Mr. Sherwood stood to give the birthday speech.
"Thank you all for coming. This is another spectacular year for us to celebrate having a young girl learning so that she may one day become a great asset to the community. Most of you know that four years ago, through misdeed of others, Miss Potter did not have the right upbringing, but in those four years she has proven that she will not only become a resilient woman one day but a true gem to society. I am proud to announce that as of yesterday that I have officially adopted Miss Potter as my daughter. May I announce our star for this evening my daughter, Miss Rosetta Potter-Sherwood." Mr. Sherwood stated
I was shocked but I quickly pushed that away and began the ball. I was to perform a song on the piano plus sing so I walked up on stage. I decided to sing Into the Unknown by Idina Mendel.

Once I finished we all sat down and ate before the guests started to leave. I smiled and thanked everyone for coming until the final guest left. For the next hour I got to celebrate my birthday with my family. I was finally allowed to called Mr. Sherwood my father and Anastasia my sister. I never had to see the Dursleys again. I was completely exhausted at 10pm but the night was completely worth it. I had a family now who loved me for me. I was officially no longer the FREAK that lived with the Dursleys. I got to taste a bit of my dream tonight and that was the best birthday gift I have ever recieved.
