Problems Of The World

I wrote this pre-pandemic, but thought it still held strong. edited the end a bit to include more in-date frustrations

Don't feel compelled to read this,
It's just a silly rant
about what I think is wrong,
I tried being quiet, but I can't.

First off my questions,
Of which I have a lot.
I don't need permission to ask them,
because that's why my grandpa fought.

Why do I lay at night thinking
about upcoming World War Three?
Why do I lay unblinking,
wondering what this world will be?

As I lay there, just being,
looking at the starry sky,
In my future will the lights still twinkle?
Or will they shrivel up and die?

As I contemplate my future,
and what will become of me,
will I flourish to new potential?
Or be hindered by 'democracy'?

They say everything is perfect,
Well, that's a blatant lie.
If it's so wonderful,
why do we commit suicide?

Sure the U.S. is more fortunate
than more slovenly places,
but our leaders ignore the raging problems
in their ugly, opportunist faces.

Now, consider this, I beg of you:
why do we gather here?
The corrupted education system
Doesn't care how we feel.

Now I hate to be dramatic,
but these problems are more than me,
so if you really want to help the world,
get off your stupid screen.

Or at least that's what they tell us,
But what if tech helps us grow?
What if the destroyed Earth we'll inherit
could be improved by a phone?

Or maybe they must confiscate
what encourages us to thrive-
'cause the music on that playlist there
just saved a student's life.

And, yeah, we should read a book,
we've got that self control.
Most know when to stop the screen,
we know when to say no.

Now, change your view!
Transition, if you will.
how can we tackle problems
if all we do is kill?

I don't need a crazy old white man
or an even older white man to lead,
I just want someone trustworthy
who isn't fueled by greed.

The horse is in the hospital?
Good, let him stay.
Maybe the election, then,
will be better that way.

Is the virus a fraud?
Is it, don't you say?
Well I hope your imaginary illness
takes its time to go away.

Oh, but it will,
because rather than save lives
you figured that money was a better option,
that the 1% was more important to thrive.

Your followers say to sympathize,
but I bare my teeth and hiss
if you wanted nicer opponents,
you should've been nicer to us.

They say that your life matters,
but if that is true,
then surely the people of color
are included in that crew?

you can't abuse us and expect cooperation,
and by now we're far too mad.
You gonna call me crazy, boomer?
I'm boiling inside, and you should be glad

that we have more self control than you,
in all your rich, dumb glory
because if Gen Z didn't grin and bear your words,
then the streets would be gory.

But, then again, they already are,
But it's not because of us.
The blood of the American dead are on your hands,
peaceful protesters murdered, man, you sus.

I think we should eject you
I think you're the inposter here.
Killing all the people
That your cowardly heart fears.

You gonna call me crazy, boomer?
You've got no idea of my rage.
I hide behind the Minecraft Youtubers
and the words on my page.

You gonna call me crazy, boomer?
Go ahead, see if I care
I don't mind you saying facts,
pointing out what's there.

You gonna call me crazy, boomer?
You gonna try to hurt me?
You already hurt the generations
over who they love, but love's free.

You gonna call me a freak, huh?
You gonna keep calling me crazy?
You gonna turn around and ask me to vote
for the one that did this all to me?

I am crazy, I am everything you fear.
I am crazy,  and I take that title with pride.
My music blares, but I don't care,
Because I've chosen my side.
