I don't actually have sciophobia, but I thought it was a cool word to base a poem around. Hope you like it, I've been forming some other poems in my brain and I might get them written up soon. School's a lot though, so it might take a little longer. :(

Sciophobia can be defined as the fear of shadows or the fear of what lurks in the shadows.

* * *

I don't know what they're speaking,
I don't know if they can die,
I don't know why they're meeting,
And I don't know why they lie.

I don't know what they're made of,
I don't know where they're from,
I don't know if they can love,
And I don't know why they've come.

I wish that I would turn away, forget,
Be naive to the eyes that hide,
But I'm destined for pain, regret,
haunted by a sciophobic state of mind.

I know that they will hunt me,
I know that I can't run.
I know that I will never be free,
And I know they've had their fun.

I know their grunts and growls,
I know their claws and fangs.
I know their chilling howls,
And I know the song they sang.

I wish I could go back to life,
But my wishes are denied.
I hold my keys like they're knives,
haunted by a sciophobic state of mind.

I don't know if they're fiction,
But I know they could be real.
I don't know if they'll get conviction,
But I know that they can't feel.

I know that they cower away,
but I don't know what they fear.
I know that as I walk, I pray,
But I don't know if they're near.

I wish that I could turn my head,
I wish I could pretend that I was blind,
but to their presence I am led,
haunted by a sciophobic state of mind.
