There once was a boy in exile
Who never cried but faked every smile
He stood on a ledge, feet on the edge
Mind running all the while.

There was a pit of fire below,
That bubbled and hissed slow
The boy saw an end, away from cold friends,
And found himself wanting to go.

On his leg was a trembling hand,
That only wanted to understand
If he took a step, he'd plummet to depths
That his body wouldn't withstand.

In his mind was a comforting thought
That he'd already lost all he'd sought
If no one wanted him there, why would he care,
They'd probably already forgot.

But by his side was a man in green,
Who'd only ever known chaos and greed,
When he saw the boy's eyes he knew what he'd try,
And needed to intervene.

So there was a boy and a ruler
One broken and one crueler
But the call of the void tempted the boy
However much he hid behind humor.

Two opposites in the landscape of hell,
One looking at an empty shell
Two different sides, two different lives
An attempt at forever farewell

A rough hand on his chest to prevent,
The action of murderous intent
They both turned away, to face another day
Though only one of them left content.

There once was a boy in exile
No innocence and no wide smile
He wanted to step off the ledge, to get revenge
Eyes dark and mind running wild.
