You had just been assigned a huge math project and you were partners with the cutest boy in the sophomore class, Charlie.
You had started working on your projects in class, but Charlie was quiet the whole time, which made you wonder if he didn't like the fact that he had to be your partner.
When class got out, it was lunch time you felt like you were dying of starvation. The eggs from this morning weren't doing a good job of keeping you full.
On your way to the cafeteria, you were walking behind Charlie and one of his friends.
"So, dude. How do you feel about being partners with a 5 on the math project?" He asked Charlie.
A 5? Was that all you were? Only halfway to 10 on the prettiness scale? What would Charlie say back?
"What? You idiot, she's a 10. You're a 5," Charlie said, giving his friend a push and walking a little faster than him.
"No, you're ridiculous! She's a stick and she's got brown hair!" You were about ready to go to the bathroom and cry.
"I have brown hair," Charlie pointed out. "And she's not a stick, she's just... she's got that kind of body build. That's the kind they look for in modeling," he finished.
You weren't sure whether to be happy or to be sad. Someone clearly thought you were ugly and they were talking about you to their friends behind your back, but on the other hand, the cutest kid in the grade thought you were a 10.
Charlie turned around and there you were. He looked surprised to see you there. He kept walking but he made eye contact with you one more time and flashed 10 fingers at you before winking and continuing on to lunch.
You smiled to yourself, deciding to be happy that someone thought you were hot and choosing to ignore that someone thought you weren't so cute.
